Powerboat Race coming to Lake Guntersville, Alabama

In 2018, Lake Guntersville will host an H1 Unlimited hydroplane race.

Set for June 21-24 of that year, it could bring upwards of 70,000 people to Guntersville.

Boat speeds can reach up to 200 mph.

According to driver Charley Wiggins, Lake Guntersville is nearly perfect for the race.

"Ever since I was racing here in the 80s, I've been to a lot of courses around the country, and this is some of the best water in the country to race on" he said.

The pits and HQ for the race will be near the Stockton Causeway.
