• OPA 1st Annual Heritage Coast Offshore Grand Prix

The first very first race in Tawas Michigan will be held this weekend. To say the area is excited would be an understatement. Here is a photo of one of the posters they have placed all around the area announcing the race.

Some of the comments from the organizers commenting about the excitement of having Offshore Race Boats from OPA come to Tawas Bay are as supporting as any have ever been in recent history.

It looks as if their support is going to pay off in a pretty good turnout of boats. (The $1000 tow money to attend certainly doesn’t hurt either!) Due to the last minute nature of the event, it is amazing they were able to get the entire plan together and organized to the degree they have.
So far, as currently confirmed at this time, we have:
    Extreme - 19 CatCanDo
Cat Lite - 77 Amsoil, 388 Phoenix Parts, 8 Infinity
Super Vee - V1 Wazzup, V6 Strictly Business
Vee Lite - 411 Octane, 21 Pirate racing, 66 Tug It
    Class 1 – 129 Cleveland Construction, 105 Lighting Jacks
Class 3 - 360 Bull on the Beach, 322 TKO
    Class 4 – 401 Simmons Marine, 419 Twins Screws/R&S, 487 Jersey Outlaw
Class 5 - 555 Oak Hill Sales, 517 Saris Racing Engines, ? Volocity
    Class 6 - 633 Wazzup2, 6?? Combat Zone, 626 Maxed Out Motor Sports, 613 Bad News, 602 Bat Boat, 644 Knot Guilty, 619 PFE, 609 Crocket Marine, 607 Akula

If all of these boats are able to make it, and we can get a few additions at the last minute like usually seems to happen, it will be a sweet event to attend and watch, (or compete in). The course is laid out well for viewing from the shore or dock.

The dock is huge, almost a mile walk to get to the end from the shore!!! I would guess there are places to shoot from the dock, from the shore, and of course, from boats. We should have some excellent photos to review from many different vantage points…

I hope to see many of you there, should be fun. Let’s make sure to show the east coast of Michigan what a ral offshore race looks like, and how the racers and fans can assist the community with their tourist destination being the place to be for such an event…
