I read on the Checkmate forum that I should be looking at a 21p mirage or the like... I have a 454mag/alpha combo and the prop is chewed up.

Anybody have anything laying around the garage that would work with my setup? :USA:

I have a 21 mirage that has been reworked at some point. It is now stamped as a 22. It is is good shape, matte finish. It ran 59.6 with my 330 on a 240 sport. I can take some pics if your interested.

I would think a 23p mirage might be what you need. Airmarine on 56th and central by midway demos props. Prop for 5000 rpm max or so

Someones gotta have a old 3 blade mirage laying around. I have a 27P mirage plus but I doubt you'll get over 3500 rpm!

Yeah I sold it to Brad Zastrow, who lives up on the chain...

Here's what it looks like now:

I liked the retro paint more but this certainly matches the interior.

I just picked up this Checkmate 240 Enforcer with a buddy of mine. She's going to be standing real tall in a week. Stole it for $2600!

The boat felt pretty gutless at 57 mph and that was turning a 17. So I'm thinking 23 would be a lil more than it can handle.

Can't wait till we're running a blower motor and a bravo... Then she'll move like what I'm used to. Maybe. LOL.

Thats odd. What Rpm were you at full throttle? I would think a 454 mag would spin a 23P no problem in that boat. If you can only spin a 17P I'd say something is seriously wrong with the motor! Like it being a 305CI with 454 decals!

One thing to look out for would be the X-dimension. Simply bolting up a bravo gimbal on the transom only requires drilling two additional holes in the transom. However, Bravo's are longer than a Alpha, and putting the prop to deep may have handling and performance issues. Where as you might need a shorty lower to get it to run good. $$$$

I had a old 24' Four Winns liberator. Originally it was a 260HP 350CI merc with alpha drive. Then it got a new 625HP 540 with a brand new bravo x drive. New top speed was 70mph, but it didnt handle well at all at that speed. Chinewalker.

Now that I think about it, if its the orginal 454 mag that came with the alpha combo, its only a 330HP mag, not the better 365HP version with forged internals and square port heads. While you can build the 330HP to make 400HP or so, getting a used 365, 370,400, or 420HP merc 454 would make for a great start. The only difference between the above is cams, intakes, and carbs. And they are a great foundation stock for a small blower addition later. But getting ahold of one of them and adding a roller valvetrain and some other little things can make 475HP and that will make for a very fun ride on the enforcer!

Just drive the thing and have fun, Alfa drives are cheap enough you can keep on in the back of the truck for a spare. I have some old school Cleavers hahaha

I was partners in an enforcer for my first boat. With a stock 454 mag it ran just over 70, I think we were spining a 24-26 bravo. Been 8-9 years ago so the memory is a little foggy.

The 87 454's were called magnums and were 330hp not the 365 mag. The Alpha's that were behind them had a real high gear ratio like a 1.30 or something. That is part of the reason for the small pitch prop. Remember that boat is gonna feel gutless relative to a twin 502 boat.

Well, drained a bunch of water from beneath the floor that had collected there bc the cockpit cover leaked bad... I'm sure the added weight didn't help matters. And the prop is shot, which can't help.

Getting a 21p from a buddy today, we'll see how she does coming outta diversey sunday.
