The penultimate weekend of 2009 Powerboat P1 (http://www.powerboatp1.com) World Championship Season is upon us and race fans the world over will be listening to yet another history making event with live coverage of the Scandinavian Grand Prix of the Sea in Gothenburg, Sweden August 7, 8 and 9, from Powerboat P1 Radio (http://www.p1radio.com) (www.p1radio.com).

Coverage begins Friday, August 7 with Power Pole time trials beginning at 9:00 a.m. (EST). The Round 7 Sprint Race can be heard starting at 6:00 a.m. (EST) with the SuperSport class action followed by the Evolution class at 8:00 a.m. Eastern on Saturday. August 8. Sunday’s Endurance Races begin at the same times on August 9. The broadcasts will be repeated throughout the day, and podcasts will be available through www.powerboatp1.com by clicking on the radio link.

This is the Powerboat P1 World Championship’s first foray into Sweden, where it is said that one in five citizens own a boat. In addition to the historic first of the Gothenburg venue, fans on-site will be able to watch what promises to be exciting racing from an historic location at Fort Oscar II, one of the last remaining World War I strongholds in Sweden, which remains virtually unchanged since it was built in 1907. Fort Oscar II is normally closed to the public, but will be open to race fans as it was in 2001 for the Volvo Ocean Race, a prestigious sailing event.

Following this weekend’s racing, the championship season will conclude September 11-13 in Syracuse (Siracusa), Sicily.
