Just came across this in my archives

Many people have asked about my avatar this is the story and the pictures

I hope this is readable

I was out in this snotty water that year in my brand new 21 foot scarab The race was wild and true OFFSHORE racing

Gotta love the old days

To me this set the men from the boys

No roundy round racing here

Grand Haven to Holland back past Grand Haven to Muskegon and back to Grand Haven

One lap was about 60 miles

I have a great article about the Northport 250 which I scanned and tried to post recently but the file is too large.
Any chance I could email it to you and you could manipulate it to get in the right size to post here ?

The article shows the course map and has some great stuff from the mid/late 80's. The article was in the Lealanau times.

Its funny, I was just telling a California guy that the Great Lakes are effectively a fresh water ocean...

True, but the lake has what they call square waves. None of them on the left coast.

I'll disagree there. I grew up in Oregon and boated in the Pacific out of the Columbia River. It's just as bad there as anywhere I've ever seen.

You havn't seen anything till you've gone through 40 footers.....:ack2:

There's a reason there's no races up in northern Oregon or off Washington.
