Ive heard all this before.
True story: Last year in Orange beach, there I was at the ramp putting the boat in with a rough water set up of a max speed of 83-85 MPH as Mark and Jen were coming in from a test run in some snotty water on test day. I ask mark, how was it? And he says it was big but just get on top of it and you can fly we hit 90-91 mph. Thinking they were only one year into the race program why not believe them they are rookies, right, why would they bull $hit us. I tell the crew put on the big wheel. If the rookies can do 90 in the big stuff we need to do 91 or we are toast. We head out the cut to slam into some 5' seas. we get it up and running a strong 85-87 in some what out of control attitude. Natoli says we need more speed if we want a shot so go for it. Up comes the tabs, out goes the drive and 20 yards later we were at speed until we got to the 30 yard mark. At that time we were just praying we would come back to earth in one peace and were making promises to god if we live we wouldn't do certain things any more. We get back to the dock and told Mark we almost died trying to hit 90 and that its incredible that they could run at that speed.
And his response was I WAS JUST KIDDING we were only in the 80's and boy was it rough out there. Learned a lot that day about asking a competitor questions and believing the answer. Great memories in SVL.

Great story!

I stopped asking competitors about their set-ups because it used to drive me crazy! You would be thinking "hell, I've got to change my set up to be like theirs. No, wait maybe he is bull s***ing me. But then again what if he's telling me the truth?" It's all part of the fun!
