I run Mobil 1 M1-302 filters on my 2000 502mpi's. Ran them on my 525SC also.

I like the ac delco pf932. If you have the space for it, it carries almost one extra quart of oil in the system. Hydrocruiser did alot of filter research and the delco 932 had very good flow numbers and filter specs.

I'm done winterizing now and decided to use the Quicksilver filters. When you hold the two together, they are identical except for the paint colors. I'm wondering if they are the same filters and its just a marketing scheme using two names.

I do believe you are right they are the same. The Q ones are packaged for display.

If im not mistaken I beileve quicksliver is actually owned by Mercury or Brunswick but im not 100% on that.

Yup, Quicksilver is a product of Mercury Marine. Thats why I think the filters are actually the same. Just some are painted white for the Quicksilver brand and the rest are painted black for the Mercury Precision Parts brand.

I was told they are the 1 and the same. Difference is that the QS label is more for the WM stores and such, where as the Merc label is more geared from your dealer. Oil is the same deal also, along with everything else availble in either label.

Always ran either the Merc or QS filters and oil in my 502's, but last week I thought I'd try the majoritys recommendation and go with the M1 oil and filters. The
M1 comes with better protection, and is cheaper.

us1 have you tried out the amsoil I hear nothing but great things about all of their products but the boat I run I cant justify spending the extra $ on it. But if I had a perf. boat I would def. be looking into them.

No I haven't. This will be the 1st time to use oil and filters other than Mercs since I bought the boat. A buddy gave me a bunch of M1 oil as he no longer uses M1 oil. He always had a bad case of condensation using M1. Changed to Penzoil and his condensation problem went away. So I'll be curious what my experiences will be next summer. Also have heard equally good things about Amsoil. Don't recall pricing or availibilty of it though.

I think Merc is now trying to promote Quicksilver as an aftermarket part but not really pricing it that way. Quicksilver used to be the trademark for all Mercury parts. I've always believed Merc oils were top quality, but I've been using alot of synthetics lately. Lots of good threads on oil and filters on the other site.

When I looked into becoming a dealer I believe it was roughly $7.50 a quart dealer price plus s/h and all that jazz. On purchasing it sometimes you can get lucky and find a local shop or autozone type place that will carry it or you will have to do a little research and find out who sells it in the area because there are tons of independent dealers out there.

I use AMSOIL Dominator 15w-50 Racing Oil and their EAO 24 oil filters on and in my 496ho's. I also use their Marine 75/80w-90 Gearlube.

Basically there are two kinds of oil filters. One that filters through pleated paper and the other that filters through a compressed media. Most marine engine manufacturers recommend a pleated paper filter. A little less filtration with better flow volume. Most marine engine oil stays cleaner because of the lack of road dirt and dust out on the water and most boat owners are far more conscientious about regular oil changes.

The Q is for quicksilver, which is Merc's aftermarket brand. I heard Sierra is making a lot of parts for Merc now so I guess they are marketed under the Quicksilver brand. I don'[t think Mercs filters are all that great and certainly not worth what they charge. It's not like Merc makes their own filters or oil.
