I figured I would start a thread on my new to me 10 meter. I am lucky and she is almost perfect. It won't take long to get her there.

1985. Purchased with 370 TRS, Latham steering and MYCO. In '01 she got painted and motor upgrade. She has spent a lot of time sitting in a warehouse. Of course it needs a few things, but everything works and runs great.

No, but I spent all day with her. I found a bad bellows, pulled drive and bellhousing. Replaced u joint assembly and tail shaft bearing then took it for a ride. It is in great condition. I will have her totally perfect by next spring. For now soap, gas and water is all it needs.

So go figure. I drive for 5 hours and stop to get some sleep. Get up and drive 18 miles and loose a tire. Changed 4 get rolling 30 more miles loose another tire. Changed 2 and proceeded another 1000 miles to get home with no more problems.

Best part was when I pulled off the interstate the girl at the count says there is a shop with Tires painted on the building just up the hill.:biggrinjester:

MOBILEMERCMAN

Only lost two. But all were going away at the same time. The looked fine. It only took one heat cycle and the tread was coming off. In the grand scheme 6 15 inch tires doesn't really matter. I got lucky and got them changed quick and easy. The only reason I stopped twice was the first place didn't have 6 that matched. I now have all new skins...

Jim, that boat is a true piece of history. I always loved the 10 mtr boats.
I remember having to do a project in art class at 10 yrs old, and I based mine on drawing a 10 mtr from the ad.
I noticed in that 3rd pic the open "handlebar" on the top of the windshield...
I was cleaning the garage today, and pulled out the windshield frame for my boat that will be going to powdercoat next week, and it has that same layout.
Guess I didn't realize that was a common detail for the boats of the early 80's.

MOBILEMERCMAN
08-23-2010, 10:03 AM
That windshield frame and wrap around hand rail is all hand made square tubing and in near perfect condition. The following year they were all stainless tube.

I am trying to keep it true to its time with no updates were possible. Next project is to fix the stern light and then a leaking transmission.

Good luck with the move Jim.
My boat is still sitting at the old place, and just waiting for a buddy to come out and help me get it into the new garage for the first time. (I have a really tricky driveway).
Moving sucks, but man, if you're moving to the right place it's worth it.
I'm about 90% moved, and the closer you get to "done", the harder it is to drag yourself back to the old place.
If you're planning on coming out to Havasu, you're REQUIRED to stop by.
Be safe in the move, and I hope everything goes smoothly.

She is sitting under cover waiting for her new home to be built. The next things on the project list will be done in our soon to be built garage. Chances are pretty good the drives will be getting raised when the engines come out for the valve job and spring change.

Not planning on using her too much this year although all that is needed is to add gas and clean. . All my efforts will be put toward getting settled and building a garage.

The second is a pic from the street before you get to the driveway. Ours is the one with the dormers. The closer roof is a neighbor.

Thanks Tim..We are excited.

Beautiful view!
Congrats on the new place.
I fully understand the boat taking a bit of a back-seat to projects around the house. I have so much I want/need to do around here.
Plus, I've already seen money flying in directions I hadn't foreseen. All my life I've lived in 1200-1400 sf. Moving into 2500+ (3600+ w/ garage) I need a lot more furniture, and it has to be larger furniture or it just looks ridiculous.
I look forward to seeing more pics after closing.
I was hesitant to put up pics of my new place before closing - I wanted this place so bad I was just waiting for something to phuck it up, right up to the final minute.
Hope all goes smooth!

He couldn't stand it. Took her out last weekend and spanked her cute little butt, BUT GOOD! Took some friends for a ride and we got a little company from the sky to tag along for a few miles.

Have to reach over and smack the throttle man now and then to keep his pinwheel eyes from rolling too far back in his head. Enjoy!

Paul, I prefer not to drive my boat. I encourage who ever else is in it takes the wheel. Everybody in the boat drove her that day.

I have been teasing myself by following Bud Weisner's Magnum threads and BDC1013 420 thread.

Few people seem to appreciate classic boats for what the are. My project is on hold but, it does sit clean, covered and operational. I can't wait until I can work on her again. Soon as she lives inside again.

No, I do not plan on changing the throttles, I refuse to paint or remove the teak. I searched and found red 33C Morse cables for the indicators. I couldn't stand the idea of replacing them with anything else. I plan to remove the gaffrig gauges and replace with the Stuart Warners the boat came with. I am tempted to buy a new Blue Card Ritchie compass but, no I will keep my original Dansforth. My Nordskog speedo still works and is accurate.

I am Lucky to have her.

Thanks, I intend to keep her as close to as produced as possible. So far the only things changed are the gaffrig gauges and the are going to go back to SW. 370's changed to 502's with Gils and the 525 SC ignition. The entire boat has been IMRON'd no more gelcoat to buff.

Once she gets to stay inside I will really show her some love.

Not sure, But the speedo says about 420. { Based on what I know from new boats in '88. However my drives are lower so maybe more like 450} They need to be freshened up. I replaced the intakes shortly after I got it. They were rotted at the water ports and leaking in to the rear runners. I have intended to pull them and do the heads when I got her but, have been side tracked a few times. First I had to freshen up the trailer. Then do some glass work forward on the cabin floor.

I just need to get her inside to finish my list. My winter project is getting a garage up.

Paul called when I just laid down to rest after the primer coat. I wasn't smart enough to wear a respirator. I had the exhaust fan going and all the doors and windows open. It got me pretty good. I don't remember complaining.
Had a couple friends, Griswald and Rich help with the final coat. We all wore masks for that. Good thing the top coat was much stronger. I could still taste it when I was done.

1985 30' outboard boat. Of course in pieces. New aluminum trailer. I am not exactly sure on what I am going to do to it yet. I do plan on reducing the weight as much as possible. I think I am going to cut the fuel tank down from 160 to 80 gallons.

MOBILEMERCMAN

Nice. What deck does it have? I wouldn't worry too much about making it lighter. The boat carries weight well. I suspect the tank is long and low anyway. Just don't fill it up. I would keep the capacity.

A stock B 30 race boat would go nearly 70 with stock 200's. There were a few with triple 2.4's not sure how fast but would guess near 90. A pair of 250 3.0 liters would probably make for a fun boat.

Since day one I have been wanting and needing to pull engines, pull heads, replace springs and exhaust valves, trannies need to be gone through port side leaks and clutches are apparently warped. While they are out the typical detail in the engine box. Provide a place for a through hull transducer. Replace gasket on transom assemblies.

The big question is whether or not I fill and re cut the transom now or latter. I am definitely going to do it so I will probably do it all at once.

Also going to send my steering back to Latham for a re polish and refurbish and replace the cable inside.

Of course the list will grow with surprises. I am sure some hoses will get replaced and a detail to engines will take place.

1/4" between manifolds
My outside mounts rise 6" of stringers.
Center stringer 18" height. Mounts stick up 1 1/4 " Perfect.
29 1/2"between stringers.
Engines are 52" long
2 1/4" tailpiece clearance to inside flange.
Wedges under tail piece at gasket surface. I can raise engine and remove wedge, Perfect.

There is corroded aluminum where the gasket held moisture. It appears the mointure came from inside the boat. The cavity where the trim lines go thru the assembly holds water. No, the ones shown above are latham. The boat was original built with Latham add on steering. A couple years later Latham created a rear mount plate for TRS. I am going to use them. 2015 July Reunion Run

We did not call it quits, we just took a short break.

We are planning a run. On July 25 this year, we will gather on Lake Travis to reunite and enjoy the lake with close to 50 feet more water in it. Our plan is to start at LAKEWAY at 10am. From there, we will take the long way over to the new Frogs, at the former Carlos'n'Charlies. Please help support the new venue by showing up in mass. For the close of the run, we will end up at the Gnarly Gar, where they will have bands and food and fun.

Our goal for this run is to raise the money for Make-A-Wish. Please come on out and help support Texas kids in need.

All aluminum in bilge is coated and matches handrails on deck. I have a few additional random pieces to coat in the future. Like my stern light and hatch hard ware.

Sand , paint, repeat. I brushed on 2 quarts of 555 imron. With reducer and activator added probably closer to 3 quarts material. I ran out would have put at least one more coat. May be 4 or 5 coats in most places.

Some of the highlights. Too many hours to count or even guess. Engines are running a little rich; not ugly soot the transom rich. Its been 100 degrees most days I run it. Tomorrow is expected to be 104 with a heat index of 108. Looking forward to the end of the summer when the weather cools to fine tune and try some of my other props. I would guess its will be jetted pretty near perfect for a clear 70 degree day.

That looks sweet!!!

Why did you go with Ceramic instead of Powder Coat?

MOBILEMERCMAN

I suppose powder coat is ok for steel and stainless but, I am not impressed with it on aluminum. Additionally power coating does not offer metallic colors and it is not flexible. Ceramic coating is more closely related to anodizing. Holds up much better then powder or plastic coating from what I have seen. Finally the coating I selected matches my coated intakes and coincidentally perfectly matches my windshield and railings.

Ceramic coating is great for hot rods. A perfect choice for headers, coil springs and suspension parts ect...

I have only boated all three summer holidays once before some 25 years ago. Being a bilge rat for a living tends to get in the way of having any fun in the summer. I just completed the summer trifecta this season Memorial Day, the 4th and Labor Day. Did the local run and planning on the second local run the 17th.

Ive been spanking her good with some resistance now I need to be nicer to my old girl and stay off WOT for a while.

That's the new plan. My buddies don't believe its possible. I can only hope I have the strength to hold her back.:smash:
