I believe there was one on ebay a while ago called Smokin gun or something that had like 850s and did somewhere around 100. Don't quote me on that though!

Bad Medicine ran 97mph when it was owned by the original owner. There was an article about it in one of the mags. I have it somewhere. Will look after work.

Yeah, I think I saw a scan of that boat. Like a two page layout. I thought of that boat. I didn't think that the current McManus boat runs that fast, because I think that it has 500efis. Not that a 500efi is a punk motor, I am just saying as opposed to some blown monsters.

That is cool. I was afraid that they would disintegrate like sandblasting a sweet tart. :D

Are you gonna be around tomorrow?

(I am not sure if this is a hijack, because they are parts for a 28 Apache)

I think it's a hijack.

Howzabout those fast 28s? Just Bad Medicine?

tomorrow I work 6am untill 2:30 pm

not a hijack... the parts were blasted to remove excess weight...thus less weight = faster 28' apache...

Chris

I don't think anyone is in any big hurry to break the century mark with the 28. Short boats tend to become a bit on the twitchy side at about that speed. As I think about it, my guess is that most guys that want a boat in that size that has great flat-water performance are shopping for Fountains and such.

On the other hand, the Brave is probably the best boat I've ever seen running 70 mph in sloppy water. Running side-by-side with a 35 Fountain on a nasty day, you'd be surprised at how the passengers are getting hammered in the other boat.

05-20-2009, 09:26 AM
I would never try to break 100 in a 28. I was just curious what has been at the upper end of HP in these.

The sloppy water handling is my real purpose for owning. That and it is cool and I like it. :)

Warpaint was pretty fast too with the 650's. Owner told me it ran 88mph.

Owner was full of poop though on MANY other things so I take his word with a grain of salt.

From what I can gather, mid 80s from 650s would be believable under the right set of circumstances.

Here are some current pics. The boat is in great shape. Twin blown 510s at 750hp per side. (I know I saw on one of the other threads that someone said they saw it at barrett jackson for sale and it looked tired. This boats never been through barrett. It was sold from Charlie, to his buddy from high school dave, to me.)

I was the one who posted that. I did see the boat for about 2 hrs while in Phoenix for Barrett Jackson, not at the actual Barrett Jackson.

Boat was a little tired as I remember it but thats just an opinion- for the right $$ a great buy for someone.

If you say it is in great condition then maybe it is. I would just suggest that an interested buyer see the boat in person and make up their own mind.

No worries. We are having so much fun with it I don't think Ill be able to part with it. It will be a last resort if I end up having to put it up for sale. We are looking forward to the poker runs. Maybe we will see some of you out there, it would be great to see a few apaches running together.

Glad to hear this. I have a 1988 that I am doing new power (and now a new tank) in. In is a nice boat, but was ready for that 20 year refurb.

Gives me encouragement to know that you have no intention of selling. My goal was to get it back in great condition and then hit some poker runs myself. This season will be very short, assuming that I have one... but I figure, short term pain, long term gain.

NOT the fastest - but pretty good for the a naturally aspirated rig its size. with this much stuff in it. On a cool Morning in Elsinore we go it up to 90 might have something left. It has & needs tab input starting at about 75+then stays fairly calm.

Ilmor 7-10 all aluminum 505CI v10
6100RPM (redline is 6300)
labbed 28
1.5 R Xr sportmaster w/Imco lower & teague platinum upgrade
Mercury ITS steering system

The teague 800 versions of my rig see mid -upper 90's but arent closed cooled use a blower etc.

I didnt realize I was in an apache forum - My bad totally guys unwanted info removed.

I thought that it was a cool boat and was glad to learn about it. And it is faster than my 28, for sure!! What the heck. A cool 28 is a cool 28!

It would suck for you to feel bad. I hope that you don't.

Not so much feeling bad as feeling STUPID.

Im normally very aware and respectful of posting etiquette.

I was doing some research on the 28 brave with twins trying to figure out the weight and beam -and it lead me back to this thread and then I realized what I did.

Thanks for being cool guys.

True- a cool 28 is a cool 28.

I am guessing that you have muliple answers to the question of weight, for sure. Beam is easier to nail down. :D
I haven't officially weighed mine, but when my buddy took it across some scales we worked it back from the truck weight and figured that it must be around 8000. That was with twin 454s, Bravo ones and a third of a (rotten) tank of gas.
Full of fuel and ready to launch with all gear on board, we wondered if it woundn't creep up to almost 9000.
