Ok this is the little project that I have started.
77 Switzer that I just picked up
I would like to update a little.......

The plan:
the hull is perfect, glossy and fresh metal flake gelcoat
the cap is faded from the sun and interior is in need of updates

The thought:
Paint the cap rail up,
I would like to have the upper part of the rail to be a white color and the tan area to be a black color, taking away from the green/gold packer look (oh No) :ack2:

Your help:
1)What sould I do to prep,
sand, chemicals, etc. (I have worked with reg gel but not the flaked)
2)What paint, etc.
3)additional comments, thoughts, suggestions you have - good or bad
4)any ideas on where to get some seats?

Looking for two captains and a rear bench

Thank you all for your input

My advice would be to use an automotive epoxy primer as a new base layer over the existing gel flake. Then finish with automotive basecoat/clearcoat as the finish.

Traditionally, those hulls were shot with a clear gel and the flake was added from the outside in. As long as the gel is still in ok shape (not all deteriorated and cracked up) it shouldn't be too hard to re-surface. If you would like to send me some pics of the finish as it is, I would be happy to take a closer look at your project.

As for your interior, give Craig Ellis from Appearance Products a call. He is very talented. He is well known as the man behind Skater interiors. His phone is 616-827-8641 and email is appearncepr@voyager.net
