This is long overdue. Besides I cant let Fundy have all the attention.:sifone:
I bought this filthy whore 8 years ago as my first offshore boat at the ripe old age of 19. She had no trailer, bolsters ripped out of the cockpit, ragged upholstry and severely hacked up rigging. 300 Tempests, Borg WarnerVelvet/ TRS drive train. Heres a few scanned pics from when the trailer was being built and right after I brought it home.

A few years, hundreds of beers, and a dozzen island skanks later I did a total upholstry update. I took a handfull of mid to late 90's Cig pics to Lane Carlisle (now XT Innovations in Bucyrus, OH) I wanted an updated look that still fit the old school lines. Bud Lorrow had a little imput that went into it as well. Ive lost most of the pics but this is whats left.

Even got a rare shot of Birdog's birdog and RaceGirl's jar of hootch.:biggrinjester:

Well, the ***** went kablooey back in the great stbd. engine scatter of 06. There was way too much stuff on the boat that had been half assed for too long just to get to the island for another weekend of fun. The remaining engine was tired and I didnt want to half ass it back together so it sat until last Feb.

All the while dreaming of more of this....:26:

So, I started stripping, at first was just going to repaint the bilge and thats when the snowball effect set in......weeellll, this is appart, might as well go ahead and do that...:ack2:

It will be well worth it when you et it completed. I would like to redo one one day. I was lucky to play with one back in the early 80's.

Tony
04-07-2009, 11:16 PM
I had the stringers and transom checked by Kevin Brown before I went ahead. I did have to cut out the rotten bilge pump pad and replace it with something that water could actually flow under. Then there was the dash, after removing all the square bezels and seeing the stress cracks, direct guage replacement wasnt an option. I decided to add full Hyd. steering and the bolt on dash was going to need some reinforcing to handle the added weight of the Char-Lynn. So fuk it, the dash came off.:leaving:

Thanks, it wasnt a speed demon but it was strong and solid, 63 gps on tired power . I'm hoping to see a deccent increase with the new power. Speeds on theese hulls seem to be all over the place with similar power and drive setups. Glassdave has some kick ass tutorials to follow. ;)

HUGE improvement! Really like how you updated it but kept the color scheme simple. Really classic.

On a side note, is it just me or is that Fountain in the middle sitting really low in the back end?

Do you still have the old by the seat valve fuel system. You can run the lines thru the rear and 't' off to the front tank and rid yourself of the restrictive small lines that cig used. That boat should run close to 80mph with 400+ hp.

There hasnt been a front tank in it since I bought it. Ive shed a lot of weight out of the bilge by running aluminum heads, intakes and exhaust. I'm hoping to see the mid 70mph. range when its done.

As soon as I shake this hangover, Ive gotta plumb all my remote drains hook up the external oil circut and pray for no leaks this time. Theese -12 AN fittings are starting to get expensive, I'm hoping that I dont have to throw many more of them in the trash. After that I gotta get the other tranny/tailstock ready to drop(cuss scream wrestle grunt) in.

I went to Cumberland with our Donzi group and a friend of mine comes every year with her "honorary Donzi". She had an Eliminator for years and sold it for a new 30 Skater with twin 700 EFI Sterlings. I never did find the tequila though :( Had to settle for flavored moonshine

Actually I took this one while it was being wired and it doesn't look too bad for the number of gauges.

Tony
06-07-2009, 04:11 PM
Thanks wench. the guage wiring itself is actually neat and tidy. I made everything to where I could pull the entire dash pannel out and flip it over and lay it on the deck without stretching any wires. Obviously it lead to lots of excess sending/feed wires.

I certainly understand your thought process.
I've been thinking about my own re-rig, and considering doing something with a plug-in, to be able to disconnect the entire thing, and then make up a "pig-tail" to connect in between if I need to troubleshoot a gauge.
I'm only going to be dealing with 6-8 gauges, and not a huge number of switches.
Did you go with 3-way momentary starter/ign switches instead of the key?
That's what it looks like - aircraft style protected switches (if that makes sense).
I was thinking of doing the same.

On Offs for the ign switches. and momentary toggles with covers for the starters. Carlton Bates sells any and everything made by Carling Tech dirt azz cheap. i.e.....a few bucks a switch. Beverly the tech support lady will bend over backwards to help you on a $20 order. After my dealings with the her, Im looking into them now as an industrial supplier.
