Anyone have any experience with the new BMW diesels in an X5 or 335?

Currently have an 07 Mercedes GL diesel and it has been great for 45K miles but warranty is soon up and I might want to try the BMW......

It's actually the same motor I beleive. They were discussing how BMW was utilizing MB's Bluetec technology at our P&S meeting in Cancun a couple of yrs back.....

I think Bluetec is the technology behind the exhaust/ emissions. MB is licensing the clean diesel technology out to other manufacturers. The diesel engines are manufactured individually but the exhaust side of the equation is shared.

BMW X5 is smaller than the GL's and I have never liked the X5 3.0 gas motors so I was hoping the diesel gives it a little more punch.....

I just purchased a 335 d and it's awesome! 425 ft lbs of torque(more than the m3) and i recently got 40 mpg at 75 mph going from ct to ohio and back (1360 miles for 75 bucks in fuel) quick , quiet , and very fuel efficient! I looked at the mb as well but i think the bmw is a better diesel

when i was in south beach last year i was talking to a guy from norway who had just gotten the x5 diesel and he said that he loved it! he said he would tow with it and it was very good in the snow. Gas milage was great also. It worth a good look into it. Germancarfans.com had a few articles on that motor awhile back

Most likely they will offer it with the double clutch 7 speed auto next year -- thats a great gearbox!

My only problem with BMWs is lack of width. We gave our Mercury Gran Marquis to our oldest niece. Her father, who owned a Beemer, drove it one day. He said it was like driving a city bus lol. Probly like going from a 7 foot wide Superboat to a 9 foot 6 inch wide Black Thunder.
