Speaking of fresh crab . Many years ago I would walk the shore on full moon days and scoop up the soft shells. Walk up to the house fry um up and throw them some bread.. The were in my belly 15 maybe 20 minutes from the water.

Before long I knew the guys and they would know to prepare some pepper tuna as soon as the saw me. I have never to this day found anybodies spicy tuna roll that came close or the pepper tuna the way the prepared it.

Yup! 3-4x per month at a zagat rated hole in the wall in Somerville NJ called Shumi. Ike has been carving it up for 30 years and it is simply amazing.

I sit down and my usual ginger ale shows up followed by a delicious plate of sashimi followed up with a soft shell crab roll followed up by another plate of sashimi. I would go more often, but it adds up averaging $125 for just me:blush5:

When the little sweet shrimps are in season and the bonito...keep your fingers in the clear.

Happy to treat any Jersey SO sushi lovers for first time at Shumi. I have friends in NY who come out for it:drool5:

Just got back from Japan - ate loads of the real stuff! The best is going to a restaurant where it comes around on a conveior belt. The color of the plate signals the price. My girlfriend is Japanese and her father is a chef. He retired 7-8 years ago and is burned out to the point where he will not cook at all. But he was one of the few who held a license for the deadly blow-fish. It was a phenominal trip - Japan is awesome!!! :)
