I saw them out at SEMA and sat in one, i like it. I want to see how they actually wind up loking on the floor and the options. If its not what I want then i will get the SRT8 Challenger.

I agree, Like I said I wish they would just put the damn thing on the show room floor. Enough promo crap, its been years looking at it all. Time to get it done.

There were 2 at the Daytona 500 as pace cars this past weekend and they were very cool looking cars(yellow and grey), I had garage/pit passes and got close looks while the were sitting in the garage..but if I was going to lay my personal hard earned bucks down, I'd opt for the SRT Challenger, much closer parallel to the original 70's car than the Camaro.

I like the first run of them & the new one that is coming out.. The ones from the 80's & especially the 90's made me want to puke... The same thing with the mustangs... It's almost like Detroit finally realized the sacriledge of what it had done for the last 2 decades.. ;) :sifone: J

I like the side shot, it looks beefey and tough but the front and rear just look comical to me, the front grill just looks like a mean cartoonish face. The challanger looks more faithfully modernized while the camaro is more of an interpetation. It's just my opinion but the challanger has the 'classic' muscle car beauty, while the camaro looks like it has a saturday morning tv theme. I like the camaro concept, I just don't think it was executed well. the designers at GM seem to have a habit of taking a promising idea and screwing it up, contrbuting to the companies problems over the long term. Definitly a history there of making some ugly stuff..geolanders, aztecs etc.

You need to make a 3M kit for it and you can come down and sit in mine. Had to have one since my first car was a Z.

They had two at the car show here in Pittsburgh. The spokesgirl said that production starts in March and they should start hitting the showrooms in April. Time will tell if thats true. Looked really sharp. Especially the black SS they had

The difference between the Camaro/Stang and the Challenger is GM and Ford just used the old cars as inspiration, whereas Chrysler is flat out retro and based on the original. I don't know if I phrased it right, but that's how it's explained by the various designers.

I've seen all of them up close and in person for a while now, and the Camaro is the best looking (wasn't as big of a fan until seeing it in person). The '10 Mustang isn't updated enough from the current, and the Challenger is HUGE.

Overall, I will bet my bottom dollar the Camaro is the best driver of the bunch, by a LANDSLIDE.

They also had an 2010 stang at the show and I gotta agree I wasnt all that impressed over the current one. the headlights are a lil more squinty and the rear corners are angled.. but not a big change. I do love the look of the Challenger but its a big heavy car. more of a straightline runner. The camaro was sharp. Ive owned two in the past and am on my second vette. I would definately own another camaro. And, if the girl was right again, she said that the ss would be about 30k??ish. I just hope its true

saw one the other day up in St Clair. Gotta be honest all the pics and concept stuff looked way cooler. I wasnt able to get to close but went by it several times, it was parked at a house about a block from where i was staying. Whipped off a couple cell phone pics as i was going by one of the times, I'm guess a GM excec's house :D

Dont get me wrong it was good lookin but it just kinda fell flat for me, didnt care for the front bumper/nose at all. Hope they bling it up a bit for the SS version. maybe if i get closer I will change my mind. I really do like the "retro" look the big three are shooting for:cool:

I really don't think they were trying to copy the 67-8 or 9, but give it that flavor sorta. I like it, its kinda there in style and I am a GM guy so thats what I have to go for, Besides I have owend 23 or so 67-71's and I know that this will be a way better car than any of the old ones ( I am sure to get flamed for that) but as a daily driver I am sure it will be better. Besides what else is there in a coupe these days?

Camaro vs Mustang vs Challenger

The independent rear end sells it for me, my 01 z28 was quick until you hit a ripple in a fast corner then watch out.

I really like the looks of all three, the new Mustang front end is good but the rear leaves me cold.

The Camaro looks like a home run to me

I just keep thinking of ALL the 'stangs that have sold while GM drags this out for ALL these years of teezin'. Hot Rod had a little blurb that they allowed select SEMA manufacturers a day to measure the car for their products and even released CAD files to some. WTF? Does that mean an even longer wait until they start selling these? I have yet to see one at a dealer...

MattBMiller

You can thank the government for the delay on the V8's. CAFE standards require about a 50/50 mix of V6's to V8's.

I finally got to see one in person at my local dealer the other day. POS in my opinion. I`m a big fan of the old camaros, I`ve owned a bunch of em, trans ams too. This new one looks cheap. Granted it was the v6 not a Z. Interior was horrible and I just dont like the body lines. Sticker price was 27k and the dealer wants 5k over that. Very disappointing :ack2:

I sorta have to agree, When I saw it and sat in it I was very disappointed myself
Felt like it was trying to be something it will never be. The one I sat in was an RS V/6 sticker was 29.9 way to much. It was also Silver and there were at least 5 panels that didn't match each other, the salesman said well........silver is a tough color........I gave him the cough BS and said then why would you order it for your 1st one and walked away.

Is the rumor of them painting the doors off the car true? Local dealership is displaying w/ the doors open due to the paint difference.......

asked my buddy who works in the paint shop.....he says like any car/ truck he's ever seen in 26 yrs of working there the whole car is painted, dried, then the doors removed to go down the "door line" to have all the windows, mechanisms, weatherstipping, door pads, mirrors etc installed. Then the doors go back on the exact car they came off in the first place.

He said there was an early problem with the gas "door" for the gas cap.....it is made out of a different material (plastic), is manufactured somewhere else and shipped in....they were a shade off for a little while at first but that was fixed some time ago.

I think that they missed the mark with their styling IMO. The front end looks "goofy" to me and the rear end looks like they couldn't make up their mind as to what to do with the tail light lenses. Maybe the aftermarket will offer a decent looking front end and tail light kit for it.

I havn't read through this thread but thought I would share some pics. of a 69 Z28 that I finished up about a year orso ago for a customer & friend of mine.. The car has some real cool history behind it (atleast for me)
He also has had a 2010 ordered for quite a while now & its supposed to be here in about 2 weeks.. Its also orange & plans to be here my shop within the first few days for some paintwork on some stripes.. I will try to remember to post some pics. when the time comes.. I will post some pics of it when I get it done if you guys are interested..?
It is getting black stripes over the hood & decklid & they will be done a bit differant than the factory is doing them not only in fact that they will be painted on instead of vinyl & will be completely burried under the clear with no edge but they will be a bit differant in design as well..

I also heard a rumor Ford might release a Turbo V-6 for the Mustang? http://www.mustangblog.com/blog/1017584_ford-considering-new-twin-turbo-ecoboost-v6-for-2010-mustang

[QUOTE=2112;294639]It did not dawn on me until I started seeing the new challenger around town just how short the hood is and how huge the bustle is. Even though I loved the prototype show car, I am starting to see a charger (which I don't like) every time I see a challenger.

Your comparo photos really bring it to the surface for me. :driving:Hey easy on that Charger stuff!LOL

I am not claiming to be a Camaro or any other design or engenieering expert ect.. by any meens, but as for the Camaro being a Cadillac XLR ?? I have heard that before but its not really possible in my opinion & ifso its a bargin at half the price.. lol.. I realize that just with any other "new" car line ect.. that they use design & engineering from previous cars ect..ect.. (whether they be in there line up or not) But with both of these cars being unibody cars its not like its possible to just drop another body on another car & call it a "----". I do know that the wheelbase on the XLR is over 6" shorter.. Also not sure about the suspensions or all the drivetrain comparisons details ect.. but the engines are completley differant as well.. If I'm not mistaken the XLR runs a 4.6 V-8 v/s the Camaro's 6.2 that makes a little over 100hp more

Not sure I helped anybody much with that question but its just what I see & my opinion..

I just finished with final watersanding on the hood & trying to match good ole factory orange peel so I am about start buffing.. So I will throw up a pic. when I'm done & try to get one of it on the car this afternoon..

Thanks !! As with allot of other things they look much better in real time..
I didn't want to got the factory route on the stripe layout for a few reasons..
I didn't want to hide the "fo" vent in the front bumper by bringing the stripes over the top of it.. Also I didn't want to just chop them off in the rear as I have seen most of the newer ones..

For whatever its worth If you look at these as compaired to the 69 they are just completely opposite on the ends as far as the radius's on the corners goes.. Which I thought was pretty cool & fit the new car much better in my opinion..

Came out nice Scotty!

It's funny, I've owned my '68 Camaro for 22 years, and I've spent crazy money and time building a '67 Camaro SCCA Trans-Am clone but the new Camaro doesn't do anything for me.

I'd probably go with the Charger over the Challenger or the Camaro. Then again, I'd probably go with an F550 over all three! :sifone:

"again, I'd probably go with an F550 over all three!"
((However it better have something loud, fast & cool attached to it !!!))

There you go !! To be completley honest & to not much of your surprise I'm pretty much the same way..:sifone: I work on new stuff on a daily basis & to be honest "would I drive it ?" Why yeah ofcourse "would I buy it ?" No.. I am just not into the whole latest greatest car scene.. Not knocking it, its just not my bag..

The Camaro and XLR have nothing to do with each other. The XLR is off a Vette platform. The Camaro is off the Zeta platform, which is used in Holden (Australia) for the G8, etc.

Thanks for clearing that up a bit..

??? For you since you mentioned Australia.. I keep hearing that the're built over there... However the car has made in Canada stamped all over it.. At the risk of sounding ignorant Where does Australia come into play ?? Was the design work done there ?? , Are they assembled over there ?? , Are they assembled in Canada ?? ect..ect.. Like I said maybe a dumb question & common knowledge but I am just courious..

Thanks, Scott

Since this is a Camaro thread & at the risk of jacking it some more (which are in no way my intentions) I am putting the finishing touches on a 95 for my nephew who turns 16 in january.. Its a pretty cool car for 1st car in my opinion.. Its only a V6 for the time being but it looks business to a teenager.. We done it in straight black & I put a charcoal pearl I mixed up for it on the hood & decklid as well.. The're pretty cool b/c they are pretty much ghosted in the shade & come out when its under light.. It also got a set of later model vette wheels on it as well

I think they are all sort of cool looking for modern day cars. IMO what makes the older muscle cars cool is the squeeks, rattles, rough ride and the badass exhaust note which new cars just don't have.

Your upgrades are classic. No bones about it.

Sigma platform was a Holden deal right? So basically similar archetecture to the Holden Commadore/Monaro. Right?

Like Matt said most of the design (chassis, et) work was done in Australia, with quite a bit here and some suspension tuning I believe even in Europe. The styling I believe mostly came out of Detroit. It's built in Oshawa. The work done in Australia is because that's where the platform is based.

Of the 3 new domestic hot rods I think the Chevy missed the mark. Maybe when they bring out the Z28 version it will change my mind. The Mustang/GT 500 cars look the best, followed by the SRT Challenger.

I would rather buy a used 06/07 Vette for the same money as a new Camaro if I wanted to stay with GM.

Is the rumor of them painting the doors off the car true? Local dealership is displaying w/ the doors open due to the paint difference.......

Saw the Camaro factory on ultimate factories on NTGEO channel tonight. Doors are painted on the car.
The car is built from sheet metal to drive out in 18 hours.
An interesting fact is the dash with all the assemblies in it weighs 450lbs and installs in about 30 seconds.

I'll have to watch it again lots of interesting info

I have a complete Camaro instrument panel sitting on my desk right now. 450lbs is a little on the high side.

I wouldn't be surprised, they spent most of the show talking about the red V6 car that was being built but kept showing a V8 engine, the installer was the one that mentioned the weight, it did have all the steering column and other assemblies that go through the firewall, pedals and so on.

Word is that after the bankruptcy filing that the Z28 was just too expensive to produce and has been mothballed. I'd like to see the convertible go into production maybe they'll spend a little money on R&D for that cheap plastic interior they put in them. I was impressed with the exterior until I got in one then it was done. I will have to say the most thought and R&D went into the Challenger for a retro car. Here's a load of Camaro's getting delivered to Hendrick's Chevrolet
