[Sea-Dated]

My Father In Law found this gun the other day and gave it to me to find out what it was and if it is worth anything. The most I can find is that it is a Cold model 1908 with a serial # 41299. It is in decent shape and appears to function fine. Let me know what you guys think and what it might be worth. I am going to take it to the next gun show we have and would like to have a little knowledge before I go.

It appears to be missing the magazine. Do you have it?

Condition is important. If it has a broken extractor or firing pin, or a pitted barrel bore, that hurts the price.

If it's all there, you might get $500 for it. But you might carry it to a dozen guns hows before you get that. They're not terribly desireable- there were alot of them and most Colt collectors have them already. There were some English-made ones, some British Lend/Lease one's and private-purchase Brit oficer's pieces out there that are more desireable.

I do have the magazine for it. Barrel does not appear to be pitted. How can I check the firing pin and the extractor? Fire a round through it I guess?

Very little actually sells on Gunbroker or Gunsamerica. The prices are not reflective of reality. Gun shows are where a great number of transactions take place.

The extractor is visible on the bolt face. It should have good spring tension and no chipping on the little hook on the end that grapbs the case head. You's have to field-strip it to see th firing pin tip. Firing it is the best way to check for function. It probably needs a good cleaning and proper lube if it's been sitting a while.

I have been trying to figure out how to strip it to clean it good I have not been able to figure it out yet.
