This place is all about having a good time, but everyplace needs rules.

These are pretty much straight-forward and common sense guidelines. Since this place is member-built and member-run, please feel free to suggest changes or modifications to what has been assembled so far.

Please pay special attention to the Group Moderation section.

Forum Rules

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Be polite, be respectful. Treat fellow board members as you would friends, acquaintances or co-workers and as if you’re in their presence.

Think before you post. Do you know this person well enough that your intent will be understood? Do you know them well enough to make a joke, join in on someone else’s joke or take a shot at them? Remember, it’s not what you think, it’s how the recipient will take it.

If you’re new... Welcome to the group! But remember, this is a very close community. Many of the members of this board are also personal friends and acquaintances of each other- in some cases for many years. Please take your time and ease into these circles with positive participation. Just like you don’t walk into a bar for the first time and immediately join a circle of old friends, don’t expect that to happen here.

If you choose to disagree with someone in a thread, please do it with fact. And tact.

Members of special designation - We have two special groups of members on this board. One of them is made up of notables and in some cases, legends. We call these people ICON The other group is made up of known industry professionals. They are recognizable by their designation in their profile or signature, found in each of their posts. These people are recognized for their knowledge and contribution to this sport. They are not required to earn anyone’s respect- they already have it. We are thankful to be graced with their participation and the knowledge (and sometimes the great stories) they’re willing to share. We call these people SO Tech Expert. While rudeness is frowned upon on this site, it absolutely will not be tolerated if directed at these people. Don’t argue, don’t question. Just say “thank you”.

Moderators - We have a very solid group of moderators. These people are all VOLUNTEERS and are also dedicated board members. They are donating their time to make this place run as well as it possibly can. This group will attempt to make an effort to let you know if and when some moderator action has occurred. But that is not always possible. Sometimes posts will be edited or possibly deleted. If this happens, it’s probably because the topic had no place on this board- most likely because it was offensive. If you posted something racial, a personal attack, a potentially-damaging rumor or something along those lines, then you already know why it was edited or deleted. Do you really need affirmation? DO NOT START A NEW THREAD ASKING WHAT HAPPENED TO A DELETED THREAD OR POST. Deletions should be rarities. They will be addressed when appropriate in the Forum Issues section of the board. Restarting the topic will not revive it nor will it change the call that the moderators have made.

This is a PG forum focused towards the interests of adults. The forum is not intended to be child-friendly, but it is intended to be workplace-friendly. There are several segments where adult images and topics are permitted and they are clearly marked. Material of this sort outside of these uncensored areas is strictly forbidden. Repeat offenders are not welcome on the board.

Group Moderation - Founder and Charter members are all afforded the right and responsibility to point out inappropriate activity in any forum. If one of these members sees activity contrary to the site rules or the spirit of SO, they are expected to make a friendly suggestion to the poster to remove or modify the offending post or material. If we as a group keep our own house clean, the moderators can focus their efforts towards helping members and making this a better place for all.

Market Rules

Private sellers only, except in the Industry Deals section. Continual posting of ads qualifies as non-private.

Boat-related items only in “STUFF”.

Post all items in one ad. Multiple ads with one item each will be deleted.

You must post a price and a contact method. If you don’t know what your item is worth, ask someone or auction it on Ebay. No price ads will be deleted. If there are repeated requests for return contact posted in the ad, it will be deleted.

Photos are strongly recommended. You’ll be asked for them anyway so do it in advance.

TTT’s or bumps only once a week.

No unnecessary posts- these are not discussion threads. If you have a valid question, ask it. No “cool” or “wish I had the money...” or any other off subject posts.

No comments- unless you want to buy the item there’s nothing to add. Comments like “that’s a ripoff” or “the seller’s a tool” are forbidden.

NO POACHING. If you have one too, start your own thread.
