CHANDLER, Ariz. — The popular Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series will launch its 10-race season March 31-April 2 with the Valley of the Sun Spring Nationals on the famous lake at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.

From nitro-breathing Top Fuel Hydro boats zipping down the 1,000-foot course in 3.8 seconds at 260 mph to the entry-level Personal Watercraft class, the fan-friendly series offers something for everyone.

“We’re anticipating our biggest and best season ever,” series director Ken Dollar said. “Our fans have been asking for more races so we’ll have 10 national events this year, racers have signed up in record numbers, ticket sales are going great, and all of our track owners are prepared to help us put on wonderful shows for the spectators.

“Drag boat racing is a sight to behold. I’ve never talked to anyone at a race that wasn’t completely blown away by the sights, sounds and even the smells of nitro racing on the water. It truly is a visceral experience that leaves a great impression.”

Race fans can enjoy three full days of action with Friday consumed by a massive test-and-tune session, followed by a Pro, Sportsman and Bracket class qualifying Saturday, and eliminations in all categories Sunday.

Pro classes to be featured at the Valley of the Sun Spring Nationals include Top Fuel Hydro, Top Alcohol Hydro, Top Alcohol Flat, Pro Modified and Pro Outlaw. Sportsman classes comprise of Pro Eliminator, Top Eliminator, Modified Eliminator and Stock Eliminator. Bracket classes to be featured are River Racer, Personal Watercraft and Personal Watercraft 2.

“We have commitments from more than 900 race teams to compete in our series this season and that’s fantastic for the fans,” Dollar said. “It all starts in Chandler so grab a friend or two, round up the family and make plans to join us at the drags.”
