WATERFORD, Mich. (WJBK) - The best inboard hydroplane boat racers in the world battle for the governor’s cup and the summer nationals title on Pontiac Lake this weekend.

"This is fast-race course," said Lady Luck driver Andy Keogh. "This is our 17th year and in the first 16 years, we've seen 21 world records. Not me personally but the different classes that have been running here -- unbelievable fast-race course."

And while the hydroplane races are the "bread and butter" of Quake on the Lake, so many things to do for everyone in attendance.
"We have a full kid's zone with inflatables," said James Jenkins, operations coordinator.

Event chairperson Mary Anne Wilson said they have 1,500 feet of beach and almost 100 boats.

"This is a great day to spend on the beach with your family," she said. "You can watch racing. You can play at the biggest beach party in Oakland County."

The event helps benefit an organization that grants wishes to children with terminal or life-threatening illnesses.

"I've never been to Disneyworld, so I'm really excited," said this year's wish kid, Victoria.

Races continue on Sunday beginning at 10 a.m.
