Boat racing isn't always plain sailing. Add an unspeakable amount of horsepower to your craft and things can get upside down quite quickly.

This hydroplane crash at the 24 Hours of Rouen, one of the most impressive boat races in the world, showcases what happens when you get too much air under your hull.

Thankfully the pilot was able emerge unharmed as he clinged to the hull to await rescue.
