Howard Amon Park will be home to the first ever Richland Regatta.

RICHLAND, WA - The Northwest Power Boat Association is working on bringing a brand new boat race to the Tri-Cities. The group is planning the first ever Richland Regatta in Howard Amon Park to kick off the summer the first weekend of June 2016.

It's called a "Region 10" race and will add to a series of about ten other locations in the northwest in places like Chelan and Olympia. You can expect the smaller hydroplane boats but still the big names. The likes of fan favorites Jimmy Shane and J. Michael Kelly race in such events.

Organizers say it will be pretty much non-stop action reaching speeds of up to 170 miles per hour.

"Each boat class races twice a day. So, if we have 12 to 14 boat classes, there's going to be 20 ti 30 races a day. And then the park is awesome. If you've been down there, it's all grass right to the shoreline, there's trees, plenty of shade," said Northwest Power Boat Association president John Culver.

The event is scheduled for June 3rd - 5th and it's free to get in and to park. Pit pass upgrades will be available for $10 a day or $20 for the full weekend
