Boat racers took to the water Saturday for the Kenmore Hydroplane Cup.

The event was held on the north end of Lake Washington at the Kenmore Boat Launch and Log Boom Park. Competitors raced one or two boats at a time up the Sammamish River, around an oval course and back to the Kenmore Boat Launch. The racers sped past some rather imposing concrete bridge supports.

One of the drivers crashes midway through the video, but thankfully a PA announcer assures us that "Dave is OK."

According to the city of Kenmore, the original "Slough Race" was wildly popular between 1928 and 1976 and drew crowds of spectators between 40,000 and 80,000. The event resurfaced in 2013 after an exhibit about the Sammamish Slough Race at Kenmore City Hall drew hundreds of racing fans.

Thanks to Parl Guthrie for the video.

I don't know how comfortable I would be with the bridge pilings there...

Yeah, reminds me of the river into Vancouver Lake we used to ski in when it was too rough everywhere else. Narrow and logs!!
