These are my goofballs.
Dyce, the very nervous and skittish Border Collie. Chose her on the one Blue eye, and the one brown eye. Figured she was strange enough to fit in the family.
Very good dog.

Gaitz, the Aussie Cattle dog. He's a big lug, strong as hell, but he isn't a tough guy. His bark sounds like a poodle yip.

These are some intense, clever and unique dogs. Great in the hunt field, leary of strangers (a good thing). And they absolutley love to ride in the boats...and won't let any unwelcome visitors board!

They spend a great deal of time on the dock in the summer and know the different sounds of the boats and are there to greet.

Our dog use to hide under the bed when he saw us getting ready to leave. It got to the point of being so absurd that we had to put wood all around the openings of under all the beds so he couldn't crawl under them any longer. It was starting to take us 1/2 hour or more to get him out from under the beds.

Yep, when they see a suitcase come out, they know somethings up. The wife and I have learned how to pack a bag for a week long trip in under 10-minutes.

My Aussie is quite a character.
He will actually drag the border collie outside by her collar.
He also let's you know if the water dish is empty. Stainless steel dish, ceramic tile floor in the kitchen.
If you're sitting in the living room, you hear BANG!!!!
Then he peeks around the corner to see if you're getting up to fill it.
If you don't get up right away... BANG!!!!

Yes, They are great dogs, we had one for 15yrs before Zeus. LOL , he does have a funny howl when he's excited, one thing about Akitas is that they rarely ever bark and if they do it's for good reason.

Only time mine bark is if another dog walks by the yard or down the street and they see it. Also is someone knocks on the door. Other than that they're pretty quiet.

My daughter has a schnauzer / Havanese cross. It barks its fool head off in concert with the schnauzer next door. High pitched and annoying as hell. It barks at my Auzzie Cow Dog if she plays fetch or tug or just about anything else with any member of the family. In general, a very noisey little dog. As my wife says, its a good thing shes cute as hell or I'd kill her :)

How did it happen?

I let them out of the car to walk to the front door of the house...but they had spotted a cat up the street and went after it. At the same time a speeding police car went around the corner and up the street towards the dogs and the dogs BOTH ran out in front of the car. The cops said they thought it was a 2 headed dog. They were responding to a break-in so they were traveling without sirirns and lights. If I would have been able to hear them coming I would have never even let the dogs out of the car.....could of would of.

Glad to see a DOG thread. In most cases they can be so much more closer than humans.

I will have to start off with JAKE. He was one of the best. A huge pure yellow lab and many of you members may recall the worst time of my life back in Feb this year when I had to let him go...

We miss him everyday but have since got a Black Lab in which he is showing most of the same traits JAKE had.

Attached is JAKE's photo with my youngest daughter and the VIDEO LINK that brought me alot of support from tons of people to help me get through the roughest of times.

A Dog's Prayer

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world’s sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footsteps falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshiper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.

And, beloved master, should the great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest - and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

funny story!! This just happened today.
Before I left for work in the morning I took some boneless chicken breast out of the freezer for dinner set it at the back of the counter to thaw out for dinner. So I get home fire up the grill cause im hungry as hell and go to grab the chicken off the counter........ Im lookin WTF, at this point im thinkin Im loosin my mind but I knew I took it out..... I walk out into the family room and there is my dog layin on the rug sleepin and a empty bag of garlic butter marinated chicken layin next to him.... That sob ate my flippen dinner I yelled at him but he just looked at me and was waggin his tail then I laughed cause I thought it was funny as hell..... the life of a spoiled dog!!! I hoped he liked raw chicken!!!:smash:

Yup that's Dakota... I can tell as soon as I walk in the door if she's done something wrong. She'll come to the door, and just lay down right in front of me won't jump, speak or anything. Just look up at me with those big eyes. For the little lap dog she is (al 80lbs of her) she is great at jump on to tables, and counters. I left some stuff on top of the fridge, only to come home to find her stuck on top of it. She got on the counter jumped on the fridge, but then couldn't completely stand up so she couldn't get down. It was hard to be mad at her even with the broken platter sitting on the floor.

About a year before losing JAKE, we inherited a Westi from from wife's sister in law who passed away from cancer.

It was a so strange how this all happened.

The loss of her sister in law, we get Molly (the Westi) and then JAKE passes on a year later... Almost as if Molly was meant to fill the void we would have when JAKE was gone.

Crazy how things work out sometimes...

I think the difference is Old Yeller died a tragic, untimely death in a tragic way. Marley was very old,he had lived a long, full life, and it was time for him to ease away peacefully, and with dignity, which he did. It will be interesting to see how they do the final scenes. John Grogan, the author, had full creative control,I am sure he will let his beloved Marley go peacfully, and tastefully,on the big screen. And everyone, please read the book before you see the movie, trust me on that.

I have an American Bulldog. They are used for hunting Boar and Bear in Florida. You may be talking about a slightly modified version of my dog. "Bulldozer" or Dozer is all white with a brindle ear and about 107lbs. A real stud / chick magnet! Not sure if I have a pick on the puter. I'll check.

So a stray wandered up the driveway today. He looks to be a ridgeback and about 6 months old. He's bone skinny with the sweetest personality we've seen. No collar, so no one to contact.

We have our 3 shepherds, so I had to make him a bed in my storage room outside, but he loves it...

Already ate 2 bowls of food and playing with 2 of our shepherds (the 3rd one is a biotch). She went straight for domination, but I got it handled.

I'll post pics when I get a chance.

Right on! :) Ridgebacks are great dogs!

We'll he was found today! One of their neighbors was driving by and saw him, so they came up and old us the story. He's from roughly two and a half miles away and has been gone for awhile.

We were just starting to get attached, but he's now back at home. The owner came by and thanked us and they were on their way.

Lots of good info on that site. There was a program on Discovery Channel a couple of months ago that showed the history of the Dogo Argentino. Two brothers started with a pit bull and put twenty four other breeds into the mix before they were satisfied they had the right dog. Many knowledgeable experts call the Dogo the "perfect dog".

Oh. I saw that show maybee a year ago. Guess my memory was not that good as to the details. I think they made the perfect dog for their intended use. Boy, did they have patience!

I can't say enough about my American Bulldog, with the major exception that he does not like ANY other animals of any kind, he is an absolute angel. Everybody loves him. Had to get a trainer in to get him to accept my English Bulldog. I'm likely to get an African Grey bird very soon - I'm naturally concerned how Dozer will handle this.

All you boxer owners. How do they like the water? I always loved the breed, but went with my lab b/c we are always on the water....problem is she loves the water too much. She likes to swim off and send me on wild goose chases.....maybe the boxer would not like the water so much and stay on the dock?

She loves the water, but you won't often jump off the dock, boat, or beach without throwing a ball etc...

Mine doesn't like the water and prefers to stay on the boat or just bark at the kids in the water.

Dozer sounds worse than my 110lb BoBo the pit bull. The only dog he would tolerate was a female in heat. I could not even take him to a leash park because he would just go screaming crazy at the dogs.

The last months of his life he came to like my next door neighbor's mini daschund. When Max first saw BoBo he ran like a scared rabbit, but quickly warmed to him when he saw BoBo was ignoring him. It brought me to tears the day I saw BoBo sniff Max's nose and lick him. I had never seen BoBo do that before. A month later he was gone. :( :(

Yeah, Dozer is a country boy - and ideal for the country. I beam with pride when he plays with Lamb Chop. He only goes after other animals if they are in "his" territory. He shakes and cowers when not on his turf. I trimmed him down to about 107 lbs.

So sorry about BoBo! :(

Never took my Boxer (put down about 2 years ago :( ) on a boat. But, he loved to go down to the river close to home and would "Bob"for the rocks I would throw in. He would have his head completely under, bubbles coming up, and would pop up with a nice one. He would do this all day if he had the chance. He was a very loveable clown. I would never consider putting him on a boat without a life vest. I'm sure he would have jumped in - and sunk!

There are many wonderful dogs out there and a Boxer is one of those breeds you can't go wrong with.

That is really funny. We had an all white boxer named Spike. When my older son was about 1 or 2 he was taking a swim lesson in our pool with some other kids. Spike jumped in and sunk right to the bottom. He was just standing there on the bottom looking up and blowing bubbles. One of the other dads panicked and jumped in and pulled him up. I would have jumped in but I was laughing too hard.

Always loved Ridgebacks. You can tell in her face she is a sweetie. And spoiled! I caved in myself and recently started letting the pups on the couch again - with a cover over it - they shed!!! :)

Look out, they'll steal all the pillows! My pup likes to make forts! :03:

lets see, she has chewed the seams off the couches, dug up the carpet in 2 spots in living room, & chewed up the legs on dining chairs- not to mention decapitated & delimbed many a doll. Luckily we planned on replacing the carpet & furniture because it was showing age after 2 kids. wife is bout ready to kill her, but replacing furniture is easier on me than having the 4 yr & 12 yr old girls & wife all argueing w/ ea other or me. :biggrinjester:

I solved that problem a couple dogs ago. I get my dogs two at a time. They take their energy out on each other instead of my stuff ... and its no harder training two at the same time than it is training one :ack2::D

Had to stop letting them in bed. My boxer (RIP) used to get in the middle of my X and I and strech his legs out - pushing us to the edges of the bed. We would be lucky not to fall out of bed while asleep!

Thanks! Love my pups! They are chillin' on the couch with the GF. Always wanted an English. My little girl is a real sweet-pea. She is about a year and a half old - and Daddy's girl! My GF loved the picks of yours and asked for more. I said, hell, the guy even has an Apache! She knows my love for Cigs and Apaches! :)
