The new boat just came out of the mold last week, and is headed to Dean Loucks for paint very soon. This boat will be powered by twin Illmors with Indy drives. I will post more info as it becomes available.

I had an opportunity to see both the new Warpath and the new boat shown here. The attention to detail is very impressive. The inner liner of course without the deck on looks huge. This will be very much a cruiser, but a high speed cruiser for sure. Can't wait to see the finished product when it comes back from TAOD paint shop. I hope they show this boat at the Miami Boat Show next year, it really deserves to be seen by the boating public, they did an excellent job!!

I noticed that War Path has no notch in the transom and the latest Chief looks to have a notch from the pics I have seen. I am guessing this is due to the drive configuration selection? Is there anything scientific to the decision or is this just based on many, many years of experience?

JB

sgrady
11-16-2013, 07:28 PM
OK, let's see Yes V 10's

Yes the Notch is removable, it really depends on the X dims, and drives. With all the distance on the drives, no notch was needed on Warpath.

The Bottom Design is a combo of many things, the main reason for it's design is to allow it to turn safely without scrubbing tons of speed. Too much to type but if you want to discuss PM one of us and we will give you a call. The design part of the business to me is the most fun !

We plan on the Miami Show, due to weather hurting us; we have some delay, so we will keep you posted. Probably not fully rigged. :(

The Indy drives are between the NXT and Number 6. What makes them so strong is they have dual shafts like the Six. Bob and I really like them, so we decided to go that route. They are custom painted to match the boat, which is really cool ! Ilmor takes their time in development and does a ton of R&D. They do not make the consumer do it ! :o The machine work is beyond belief. I strongly recommend you visit them and see it for yourself.

We raced the Ilmors this year, that sold us on them. In this HP range nothing is better. A 100 MPH with a warranty !

Jeff, you know that I am of the "plain simple, old school", but this boat looks badass!!!
The graphics kind of have a way of pleasing old guys like us, and still be interesting enough for the young guys.

I am in Miami and had the chance to see this boat in person yesterday. It is very impressive and very tasteful in the execution. Of course the paint job is a work of art as all of TAOD work is.

The best part of my visit, was watching Bobby going from one detail to the next, in his effort to show me what a great boat this is going to be. When the boat is finished the owner is also getting a work of art with the rigging job too. Bobby has a great passion for doing what he is doing and the results speak of the decades of experience he has, with so many victories in real open ocean racing.

Here is another shot of Bob and me with Rocky Aoki of Benihana fame. This was the year before Rocky passed.

Thanks to John Hagin of Geico racing, we were asked to come to Point Pleasant for the race that year and were honored ...along with others...as "The Legends of Offshore"

We were asked to be on board the pace boats for the races. When it was time to get on the boats assigned to each of us for the different classes, we found ourselves all alone in a dusty marina parking lot, as the organizers scurried about trying to find the pace boats. I looked at the other two guys and said......So, this is what it means to be famous ocean racing legends!!

We all laughed and eventually they found two boats, both Apaches. Rocky was on a 36 footer if I remember correctly... and I was on a 47 footer with triples as throttleman. When the flag dropped, they had to keep reminding me that the pace boat backs off and let's the pack go by. Sorry.....Old habits die hard.

Bobby's boat never did show up and he went and had lunch at Jenkinson's with his brother. He said he had a great time.

Too funny!!!!!!

Well, what would you do if you had your hand on the throttles of this beast???

I admit I was just trying to give the modern day racers a taste of running together in a pack to the first checkpoint boat. Of course in the old days that was 30 miles or so, today it is a half mile, so it was starting to get tight down there with a 47 foot roadblock as they made their turn.

Just a point of information here.......remember the same guy that rigged this 47 footer so many years ago, is the same guy that is now rigging the new Chief. He only gets better

I have a question.
As I understand, the Chief 42 is from an original Apache mold.

In the past few years, Pantera has put out a few 41's that, as I understand, was an original Apache mold.

2 different molds?
We all know how on some boats coming out of the same mold may be badged a 1' difference.

Did Apache have more than one mold for the 41/42?
Whereabouts is the Apache 47 mold?

I'm not trying to stir any chit here, just curious of the pedigree/bloodline of these boats.
Just curious.

Ratickle
02-20-2014, 11:45 PM
The "original" Apache 41 and 47 molds are owned by Saber. I believe McManus 47 mold is a splash off of Kemo. I have never found who made the splash that ended up creating the White Lightning Apache (41') out west. I'll need help on the rest of the questions.....

sgrady
02-21-2014, 04:25 PM
The Chief mold was a new mold, the steps are in the Mold. The lines on the boat are very classic and taken off the original Aronow design. The Chief is not a Splash. The plug was cut on a CNC machine.

Ratickle, you are correct onthe 41 and 47 molds with Saber. The 47 was Bill Dahl's, he bought at the auction, not sure how that all came about.

Buoy

Thanks for the info!

So where did Pantera's 41 originate?

jetcruzr
02-22-2014, 01:23 AM
The Pantera mold is the from the Thad Allen Apache project. The step profile is not from the Thad Allen project, however. The steps in the Pantera mold were modified under the advice and direction of a well known Cat builder.

Talking with Bobby at the show, the test boat for the new 42 Chief was not a 41. It was a 36 mold they worked with the hull designer from the Netherlands on and tweaked before building the new 42 mold.

Talking with Bobby at the show, the test boat for the new 42 Chief was not a 41. It was a 36 mold they worked with the hull designer from the Netherlands on and tweaked before building the new 42 mold.

That is correct the design was made into an insert for the 36 mold. The naval architect designed the steps and running surfaces. Once tested the cad was done for the new 42. IF you look at the boat close it looks more like Bob's 36 design then the original 41. The running surfaces were all the same with tweaking until the steps came into play. In the end though the all originated from Don's original designs.

The legend boats are another story.
