KEY WEST, Fla. (May 23, 2013) – Super Boat International has cancelled the 2013 Miami Super Boat Grand Prix previously scheduled for July 17th – 19th in Miami, FL. Super Boat race teams have successfully completed the second race of the 2013 national points season, after returning from Cocoa Beach, FL this last weekend. The 2013 season is in high swing after recently announcing SBI will be sanctioning the Qatar Cup in just 8 months and the partnership with Sheikh Hassan, to bring raceboats to Qatar. However with growth and new opportunities, there comes a need to balance expectations and expenses and continue to bring greater value to all professional race teams.

The Miami Grand Prix has been successfully run for the last 22 years but, it is with much regret, the event must be removed from the schedule this year. “We have run in Miami for a long time and they have always proved to be exciting races. However, with so many restrictions along the Atlantic Coast with the local municipalities and Fish & Wildlife Agency, it is hard to meet on common ground,” comments John Carbonell, President of SBI. In addition, many teams have skipped the Miami race in the past, due to the typically rough sea conditions. So with the combination of those concerns, it made sense to eliminate Miami from the 2013 schedule.

Fans and teams are currently preparing for the May 31st – June 2nd, Thunder on The Gulf, in Orange Beach, Al. For any other details, go to Superboat.com or contact Super Boat International, directly.
