I am having a oil pressure drop at 6000 RPM after about a minute. I cannot determine if it is windage or lack of oil. The KE pan I am using has an odd dipstick. It appears I have about 10 quarts in the pan. KE site says 11 quarts with filter. Anyone have any feedback? My oil temp is 220 F Mobil one 50 W
Thanks
Steve

Steve,
My KE oil pans are rated at 11 qts (pan with the front mount for the external oil pump) and I run 13 qts including the HP 6 filter. The dip sticks were marked at assembly. Maybe you also have room for an 1-2 additional quarts. It sounds like the oil is not getting back to the pan.
Are you using oil restrictors?

What is the oil PSI cold? And what does the oil PSI drop to? Is the oil pressure dropping at WOT? If you need some feed back, please feel free to contact me at the shop (216) 398-8500. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies!
The engine is fresh water cooled and I run it at 165 F. The oil temp is 140 F at idle (after cooler) 220 after a good run. Oil pressure is 100 psi when very cold 80 psi at 140 F 75 psi at 220 F but quickly drops to 50 lbs at 6K RPM. I marked dipstick at assembly but may have messed up or could the engine angle (around 14 degrees) could possibly be causing windage at back of pan?

Thanks again
Steve

Are you running the windage tray with the KE oil pan??? My buddy got a set of pans and they didn't have a windage tray so he had Stef's make one for him.

There is a windage tray scraper unit in the pan but not one that would mount to the mains.

Steve, if it's any consolation... I'm running the exact same oil pressure as you... 100 lbs cold, 75 lbs hot / 50 lbs at idle hot. Been running it this way for a long long time now....

The drop sounds like airation or maybe too low. Maybe put an extra quart in and go for a run and see what happens?? You may even be 1 qt. too high.

Do you use a valley screen? It may be filling the valley with oil if you do.

No valley screen thanks for thinking about it!

It appears the oil level is high. I have been running it lower and things are improving. If I had to guesse what is going on: I would say I did not take the transom angle into consideration when I marked the dipstick.

I am going to change the oil next weekend and slowly fill just the pan. If I get to 8 quarts I will try that level (unless I am allready below that)
Thanks
