First one I ever saw and looked at. It's what made us decide it was what we had to have.

I rode in one at the 2002 Miami show with Black Jack and Tom and some other peeps. I believe it was 46 with trips. Government Cut was closed because of 9/11 so we had to go down to the next one out. We got on plane too fast and an HS boat stopped us. They just warned us though.

We got on plane and ran about 1/4 mile toward the ocean all of a sudden it was 2-4s and building. We were getting some air when Jay Pilini blew by us in the 36 demo he had there. Less than five minutes Jay comes back. Tom looked at him and pointed toward the ocean. Jay shook his head so we turned back. Tom could see it was getting rougher and he figured if it was too rough for a 36' Spectre he shouldn't go there either.

BTs are great boats, built strong with super headroom in the cabin. The one Powerboat tested ran 94 with staggered Merc 700s, great speed for a big V. I think the all-up weight was 12,000lbs so maybe the factory is doing some vacuum bagging now?

Coolerman
11-10-2008, 08:26 PM
The one in montreal ran 94-95 with 850's... next boat build had some changes and ran 89 with 700's. Ours (43gt flat deck) when it was first built ran a best of 99 with 750's, but would normally see 93-94 with a full load.

John owns the one Sharkey's pic. I don't think he's on SOS. I'll have to shoot him a PM on MWBP. He lives in Nebraska City about an hour south of Omaha. He goes by "waconda" on OSO and by 'John P" on MWBP. He just got the boat last year. Trip 850's with Bmaxes and runs close to 100mph.

The other boat that had 3a's was originally rigged with bravos, but dollar did the conversion on that to! Gary Gallant was his name, was a good friend of my dads. Haven't heard from him in years. I rode in his boat and with cobra 700's and 3a's it was a solid 80mph+. It didn't handle bad, it did have a slight hop to it over 65, but not bad.

The big thing is having a good new set of props. Either new mercs or herrings. Don't even mess around with old used props. It just isn't worth it..... we've tried. The difference in new prop technology is amazing. New merc 850hp rated 5 blades are probably the way to go, and it would probably take the hop out of it as well. Be faster too......

I've gone over the setup on ours with Steve David. We have a couple of things that he saw stood out as probably no's. One is they ran silent choice with exhaust coming out 4, 4" outlets in the notch. The outside two are directly in front of the drives. The exhaust outlet is 1 1/2 inch long stainless tube. Messy water and who knows what else it does. Not a good design.

The other looks to be prop diameter maybe giving the stern too much lift.

Bill said you needed three hands.....

Nor-Tech has their special exhuast on the cats that comes out right in front of the lower units on the drives. Actually having it exit through the notch makes it really quiet. A pretty cool design. Nor-Tech did a 38' boat with exhuast coming out the notch. It works really well.......

FYI, our boat was originally rigged with 750 NA's. Ran a best of 99.9 on gps, stupid last .1mph...... That was without a cabin though and light on gas.

With the cabin, fully loaded with gear and gas, it would run around 92mph, and a best of 96 with a light load of gear and fuel. With modern props though and some different bottom mods, 100mph with 750's in a 43gt would not be out of the question (assuming staggered motors).
