For Immediate Release:

Smokin’ the Sound 2011
March 3, 2011

After a winter of severe weather, record breaking snow falls and freezing temperatures, it’s time to get ready for boat racing! Time to start thinking about the warm, sun kissed beaches of the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the start of the 2011 Offshore Super Series (OSS) season. As in past years “Smokin’ the Sound” (STS) May 12 – 15, will once again kick off this year’s racing schedule. This Biloxi event has become a favorite site for racers and fans alike. Featuring boat racing by day and casino action nightlife, this event draws an international attendance. “Our staff has been working on this year’s event since the teams left last May. We have a lot of exciting activities planned to keep everyone entertained and our welcome mat will definitely be out.” said STS’ Executive Director, Woody Bailey. “In addition to the races, we brought back our poker run last year. This year, with the help of Stu Jones and the Florida Powerboat Club, we hope this will become a premier event on the poker run circuit.” Bailey continued.

Teams are encouraged to be in town by Thursday evening in order to attend the STS’ Sponsor Appreciation Party hosted by the Beau Rivage. Other evening events are planned at the Hard Rock, the Imperial Palace (IP) and the Isle of Capri. Racing will be featured on both Saturday and Sunday. A complete schedule of events will be released in the near future.

This year will see OSS, Powerboats P1 USA (P1) and Pacific Offshore Powerboat Racing Association (POPRA) all racing together under the sanction of the Offshore Division of the American Power Boat Association (APBA). Martin Sanborn, North American Director for P1, said "We are thrilled to be a part of "Smokin’ the Sound in Biloxi as we build Powerboat P1 racing in North America. The debut event for the new Super Stock series represents an opportunity to focus on the ground up approach to the sport. We anticipate having a number of the new boats making the start, as well as on display in the race village."

Smokin’ the Sound is the first stop on the OSS / P1 hosted APBA schedule. The anticipated schedule will include 5 to 6 additional locations. OSS is very excited about the new changes with APBA and P1. We appreciate your continued patience as final details are secured before posting the joint schedule. Exact dates of these events will be released when available.

The OSS is a not for profit association dedicated to the advancement of the further development and growth of offshore powerboat racing in North America. For more information, please visit our web site at www.offshoresuperseries.com

IMHO Woody Bailey and Crew, as well as the fans that go to Biloxi DID NOT deserve this,
one's selfishness and child like behavior, will probably result in this site going away.

When towns no longer want to put up any money to host an event , everyone can just look in the mirror, instead of blaming someone else.

Another thing u have to look at is scheduleing, and putting races on top of each other. With Cocoa next weekend this might not of been the best date. I think teams that would of loved to do both races just cant afford to race 2 weekends back to back there are some that will and i give those guys a lot of credit. The time from work and money is going to play a big factor this yr with the econo. the way it is. Another one is going to be in July P1 schedule shows Madison IN on July 3rd . and that conflicts with Sarasota. I dont think Madison is going to be pleased with the Offshore part of the event and thats not fair to them. Again you put teams in the position of picking race site ....

the schedule is tight enough and for some to make it even tighter is just not good for the sites ot the racers !

the other thing is that most knew way to late abpout the 50% off in biloxi and made other plans before.

well P-1 doesnt even have any boats in the states according to another post,
so likea hard way to get momentum for something and not even have boats to represent.

The schedules have always been a pain, Like I said Woody Baily and crew put on a great venue for the races and fans, and I'm sorry that this is the way it turned out. sure hope Cocoa Beach has a better showing. One thing can be said about Biloxi at least every class has competition.

Who's the ones selfishness?? and childlike behavior?

I have personnally never been able to race in biloxi. However I would hope that these towns that are thinking of planning for races would probably do some research and know what is or isn't going to be coming from past results.
You often hear " Past results not indicative of future....." but it does kind of hold true.

Dont ban them, continue to enforce the rules, and fine them like Nascar, they lose their points, and second offense double the fine etc, they will eventually ban them selves because they dont want to pay the fines.

I have to applaud the efforts of OSS and Gene Stephens. I applaud OSS for enforcing the rules by DQing a boat that was found to have illegal parts and a big shout out to Gene Stephens and Dennis Lock for teching the boats !!!

IMO, The Fountain should be banned for the rest of the year from all organizations.

Our class needs to rise again and we all must work together. Mike A. was right!!
I agree if they are cheating with flywheels imagine what the inside of that engine has done to it.

Mike,

I agree with you and I will tell you how I gave up my number. I got a call from John Brunner in Jan or Feb of '10. He asks me if I would give up the #4 to a new team who needs the number to be part of their sponsor motif. To my surprise it has nothing to do with your back!

First off, THANK YOU to the few teams that did show up in Biloxi. In years past there have been some exciting races held in Biloxi:last year the battle between 9 SVL teams, the year before the battle between JBS and Miss Geico, etc. This year, we really don't need to discuss the disappointment from a fan's point of view. What a lot of us don't understand is the lack of class on the part of the "Watch Your Back" team. Dr. Janssen is supposedly a first class orthopedic spine surgeon and is affiliated with the Center For Spinal Disorders. Brian Forehand was a very well thought of (by Fountain owners) employee of Fountain powerboats. Together, in a short period of time, they have destroyed what was once an exciting class to watch. Together, they have been caught cheating, not once but twice, at 2 races in a row. Are these once highly respected individuals' egos so high, that crossing the finish line first is the most important thing to them? Janssen is definitely setting some fine examples for his son and daughter. If they were fined and/or banned from racing, I wonder if their egos would be any different. If I were a betting man, I wouldn't even think about betting on that. Definitely a sad, sad situation. Best of luck to the honest teams that will be on the race course the rest of this season!!!

Guys let it go, the more we talk about it the worst it make it look for SVL. They made their bed and I think what needs to be said was said. They have been busted twice and I think their day has come, the Org. seem to have their number so let them do what they need to do. Let look toward the futhure and all the great teams that are in the class. Looks like new and old are back on track again this yr and good things are coming. Dont let them have the spot light, when it should be shining on the teams that werent cheating and ran their hearts out. I havent heard one word about the awesome race Randy ran, come on guys give him is props. We are to busy giving a team that doesnt deserve the time of day all the coverage.

This is the first race of what will be an exciting yr of racing, it will be what the rest of the teams make of it dont give up or get run off this is your house remember that. Remember SVL was here way before all this BS and will be here way after they are gone they are just passing through. They are learning quickly that their days are number if they havent already figured it out. Rally towards something positive, and the futhure will reflect it. Help each other be there for each other, and work with the teams that need it the most. All of these things are what made SVL a special bunch of guys and awesome racers dont let anything or anyone change that. I truly believe you will see 7-8 boat fleets this yr at certain races, lets work towards that instead of waisting our time on old news.

UNITED WE STAND DIVIDED WE FALL

GREAT POST !!!!:cheers2:
