No comparison,,,the dually was my favorite, and with the 19.5's on it I could tow 12000 lbs at 70 and 75 all day long,,,,my accountant told me I needed to trade due to the revised depriciation writeoff this year, or I wouldn't have gotten rid of it.:ack2:

I like keeping mine as old school as possible! At least looks wise!

The red truck was powered by a 450hp E-85 fueled LS1 based engine I swapped in.

The x-cab is 350 powered and I use it on smaller boats.

The Dually was a 454 and when the gas skyrocketed I swapped in a real nasty, high compression E-85 Powered 350. Added overdrive as well!
The Dually is still under construction... Air ride coming soon..
It will look good pulling my Spyder this summer! Flashback to the '80s!!!:sifone:

Here's my tow rig...and daily driver. I was a little unsure about the 24s until I saw them mounted on the truck...now I can't imagine having smaller wheels. I will be buying a more aggressive tire when these wear out though.

2008 F250 w/ 6.4 diesel. Love this truck. It rides like a dream (especially compared to my old 2001 F350 7.3 PSD), and tows like there's nothing back there.

What did you do about your low air pressure warnings or are the new tires E rated and carry 80psi?

because a fuel pump for your truck is $50, not $500 and you can change it yourself....because the front u joints are $100 installed not a whole hub assembly for $600 a side....because you dont need injectors that are $400 each and you need 8 of them and that doesnt include installation.....and because they dont cost $60,000 to start with and need $31,000 worth of warranty work in 2 yrs and leave on the side of the road twice and your not scared to actually take the thing out......

Right now I am running a mildly modified 454 with a TH400 tranny. I am having another 454 built for it that should produce 600hp and 605 ft lbs of torque. The drive train has 6" lift, 35" BFG's, 1-ton rear diff., Dana 44 frt, 4:10 gears, 1-ton springs, dual Rancho adjustable shocks, Helwig HD sway bars frt & rear, air bags with on board compressor and urethane bushings. The list of crap I have bought for this thing is way too long. I started on the interior a few months back and it is about half way done. Here are a couple of pictures of what I have done so far.

Does your front end make crazy noise also? Mine does not do it on paved roads but on dirt it has some raddling and I think it may be the dust shield or something. I don't think it is linkages or anything. I just replaced most of those after I removed the lift kit a couple of years ago.

600/605......ha!...are U going to light up all 4 with the boat on the back?:)
I could have had a complete 2wd 3/4 ton with a low mile complete Ebrock Performer kit 454 and t400 , a running and driving truck for $1500 asking price..... I was going to swap the BB and trans in..... but then this alum head 406 falls in my lap $700 in the same week.....was a tough decision but I went with the 406, easier sbc to sbc conversion and I wouldnt have another truck in the drive....change cams and I should have about 450 ft/lbs.....but 605 whoa..did you do the BB conversion? does your A/C and all work ? can be a prob as the BB accesories are all different frm the SB from what I could see. Sounds like a sweet deal on that small block. Yes, I did the conversion and yes everything works. Even the cruise control. I did have to custom build one of the a/c compressor brackets but the rest was not that bad. One of the least fun projects was mounting the Autometer gauges in the dash to have the factory look. That was a PITA. I can't wait to drop the other motor in. According to the dyno it makes 532ft lbs of torque at 2000 rpm.

I don't claim to be a motor builder or know all about dyno's but here is what I was given. However I did notice I misread the hp. It is only "579" but I was not as interested in the hp when I was looking at it. Either way, if the motor does this "I" will be happy!

a pump gas towing 454 that makes that TQ at 2,000 and that much HP at 6,000???

what cam and heads and intake?

if you told me 3,000 rpm on the TQ i'd probably start to believe it, but 2,000.... nope.. not with a natural aspirated pump gas 454 with ANY head...

a 454 with a Whipple is hard pressed to do that..

look at the 572/620 dyno charts for comparison... 118 more cubes, alum heads... BIG carb and intake.. headers... before and after mod's...

sorry, and totally respectfully here, I think it's just not gonna happen.. those numbers don't make sense.... why carry it out to 11,000 rpm? where are the A/F charts?

In all fairness, that seems like an incredibly high amount of torque at a very low rpm. As I said, I am not an engine builder or an expert on Dyno's or their operation so I can not answer your questions, defend these results, or will I even try. You obviously must have a lifetime of experience as a professional custom engine builder to possess the knowledge of all combinations and all things possible. I will just stay within the realm of what I know. I know that I have no idea what combination of pistons, cam, heads, porting, boring, stroking or any other means of achieving these results he uses. I know I don't care. I know that just because one person can't do something does not mean another is not "smart enough" to make it happen. I know that he is a good friend of mine and a talented professional engine builder that has no reason to bull**** me or create a bogus Dyno report. I know that trying to compare specs from a production built crate race motor to a "purpose built" custom engine does not make any sense to me. I know that if his combination can produce ANYWHERE NEAR what that Dyno says, I will be a HAPPY CAMPER. I know that I am not the type to post B.S. just to try to impress people. With that being said, I know that I (very respectfully) really don't care what you think. I know how these types of "pizzing match" discussions always end up and I have no intention of doing that, so, I also know that I am done & it was nice chatting with you.:seeya: MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Wow Bill, that sux. I have had only one issue with my 2005. It was a clunking noise coming from the steering column. The intermediate shaft was replaced under warranty (see link) and all has been good ever since. I guess the front ends must be sensitive to any changes (taller tires / lift kits). I have stock tires/height (I know, boring) and it seems to handle the Dmax/Allison combo just fine.

I hope that I am done with all of the repairs, especially now that she is out of warranty!!! Do not want for this thing to nickel and dime me to death!!! Hell, it only has 30K miles on her!!!! Great to see ya?hear from ya!! Happy new year!!!

I looked at a 05 or 06 2500HD Chevy for my dad when they were new, I was not impressed at all withg the suspension, not "built like a rock" to me...I was told that they use alot of the same parts as the 1/2 ton, alot of guys seem to have issues with the suspension, Chevy ride better then Ford and Dodge I am sure, but I see the negative side to that..

I do think my 99 F350 dually rides very good for a 1 ton 4x4, I was amazed....rides better then my 3/4 ton did...

I like the durable front suspension on the Ford...never had issues with any of my 4 SD Fords..

I installed a 6" lift kit at 20k miles. Removed it at 75k miles and went back to stock. I did not see any issues with the ball joints when I did the swap. I do have that steering bump sound in my steering shaft and my dad says his 04 does it also from going down rough roads.

No, I really do not have any noise, but have had to replace Tie rods, 3 intermediate steering shats, control arms, steering gear boat, power steering pump, Hydro boost pump, tranny cooler lines sever times...and so on...

GM says my steering issues are from those monster 33" tires I have...yeah right! I think that GM built the front ends OK for gas trucks, but can't handle the weight of the Dmax/Allison combo...

Intermidiate stering shaft needs to be replaced. Tel your old man it is not from going down rough roads, just a poor design. Happens to every GM truck!

My truck is not lifted other then a few turns on the torsion bars to clear the tires... Just the extra weight of the Dmax and Allison up there...

on the gm sterring shafts, you can also regrease them by takenthem out buying the kit at gm and getting after it real simple process twenty minutes maybe from r and r to packing. also I believe flaming river makes a new shaft that is built to beter standards and replace the factory unit.

The regreaseing the shaft is a temporary fix, that is what GM did to "fix" it for awhile...

Borgeson also make a MUCH better replacement shaft.

Wow only one old Top Kick, thought there would be more. Next project after I get my boat back together is finding a decent shorter-wheelbase Kodiak/Top Kick and swapping a Suburban body on it.

the latest shaft has been out on the street over 20 months..

And your point??? It takes time to see if it works. Maybe I am too sceptical, but 6 months into a new part and if GM said it worked, I will not believe it until it has been on the road for awhile! GM had the old problematic shaft out for MANY years with several fixes that would "work"... I have about 3k miles on my truck in the past 20 months so I need more time for my application then that!!!

sorry, typo this morning....but do really think 20 months is enough time to prove this part is "fixed" when they have been "fixing" the part for what, 10 plus years??? I sincerely hope it is fixed, but am sceptical....

It's a v10. It was bought for the wife, and I didn't want her to have to mess with diesel fuel. I also had real bad luck with the 6.0 powerstrokes in a couple of trucks I've had. I loved my old 7.3's , but they are too noisy, weak, and stink too bad for my wife. It has always been her travel vehicle, never been used as a daily driver and we never used it as a tow truck. I've got trucks for that.

For ****s and giggles I posted it on craigslist after making that post the other day on this board. I simply posted in the birmingham craigslist just to see if I got any emails on it before putting it in truck trader. The next morning a guy from miami called me on it. He flew up that day, paid asking price and drove it home. He said (after paying me of course) that he would've given me another 10 grand over my asking price(which was 17g). He had been looking for one that clean for two years, and mine was modified to the tee exactly as he had planned to do one. Now it's on to the next tow truck project..............
