Sign up for photobucket. It just takes a minute. Then upload a pic, and click on the image code box. Then you can click and paste it on the post. If I figured it out drunk, you can do it!!

I just assumed that Apaches can be any color you want, because on rough days, you will only see another Apache anyway. And on other days, they will only see your transom.

We've seen 84.6 and that was last summer when we first got the boat. We don't have a GPS in the boat, that's going in this winter. We had a hand held.

I'll have to ask Rob the size of the props. I want to say 17.5 x 34. We have two sets, one labbed, one not. I'll try and post back later to either confirm or fix the prop size.

They are 572 cubic inch, and we're at 850hp each. Previous owner said he saw 90. I would say possible as long as the stars, moons and planets all line up properly. :smilielol5:

I'm happy where it's at....Rob would love to see it go over 100MPH. We have no plans to increase the power or change the boost in order to make it go any faster.

We bought the boat because I was scared on Lake Erie when we got into 3'+ waves. We were beating up the Stinger and that's not what we wanted to do. If we got caught in 3's, 4's, 5's or higher waves, I wanted to feel safe and have a boat that could handle it.

It's been an experience for both of us, especially Rob of course, in learning how to drive the boat in rough water. Your mind begins to question if you should in fact go faster when the water gets rougher. Took us the better part of this year to figure that out and wow, what a difference it has made.

why. Bob S told me they ran both ratios years ago racing depending on how rough it was.

I have a set of 17/28s that turn 5600 to 5700 and a set of 17.5 31s that turn 5000 maybe 5100.I really dont care for the larger dia due to the fact that it makes the transom climb a little.I tested a set of labbed 17/30s that were perfect. Rob

Some of the gear ratios work better depending on water conditions, prop size, diameter, HP, drive height etc.

The higher gear ratios are a little easier on the equipment also.

How does prop dia effect things going smaller with more blades like 5 or 6.I would really love to talk with someone who has tried this stuff and knows whats what.
Id like to try some different things but these types of props cost as much as a clean used car.:)

im actually running 1.58... my props are 17.5x28. have not tried anything else but i would say that the 17X30's would be spot on with my current set up.

i am going to add some hp to my engines this winter and i was looking at a #6 conversion but i can not decide rather it would be worth the price or not..

a freind of mine is trying to get me to bolt 5's on but i hear that 5's x dem wont work? i hear so many conflicting stories about 5's working and not working i just dont know what to think. either way i have to do something about stronger drives before next year. i would like mine to break 90 on the gps next year

As we talked about, the 5 is the same length as the 4. Take a straightedge and put it on the bottom of your boat parallel to the centerline of your prop shafts. Then imagine the props 5" upward. Then picture the water flowing under the boat and where the prop would engage it.
If you put 5's on a #3 gimbal withoyt moving the X, the only part that would touch the water woould be the prop tips.

If you convert your drives to 3a's and are meticulous on maintenance, they'll probably get you through a season behind 950's, which is about what you'll need to scratch 90. Holeshots would be a bad idea. Wet 6's are going to cost you somewhere in the neighborhood of 80 to 100 horsepower loss-equivalent. in performance. Dry's cost about 10 grand for the conversion. But like Pat Weissmann says, where else can you pick up 100 hp in your engines for $10K?

I wish I was the guy to talk to about that but unfortunately that's not my forte... Actually I hate testing, I just wanna run!

But, I believe smaller diameter tends to carry the bow and large the stern. As far as blades I dunno much on surface drives.

Pat knows as much about the six drives as anyone. He and his father Pete were first to dry-sump the Merc 6, which caused Merc to change from wet sump after they saw the horsepower numbers jump. Not to mention far less strain on internals. The Weismann six is lighter and stronger than the Merc too.
