That's Randy's 18. It didn't look nearly as bad from other angles and he came out of it clean but I've just always thought that's a neat shot.

I have a TON of pictures of classics from our Donzi meets at Lake Cumberland every year. We get a couple of the bigger boats but for some reason, it's mostly classics that show up.

What's the deal with the Canopys on these ZRCs? I've seen more than a few people who buy used ZRC's talk about having new canopys put on them. Do they distort after a while or become cloudy and hard to see thru? What's the cost of replacing them?

Tom A.
03-30-2009, 01:24 PM
I am not sure of the cost because they were installed before I bought the boat, however the old ones did distort and had a tendency to yellow over time. The new ones on my boat are almost completely distortion free and crystal clear.

Old and new

mdgperf
03-30-2009, 07:03 PM
The original canopys on the older zrc were made of polycarbonate(left over military stock bought at surplus)they would yellow over time, the new zrc have canopys made out of acrylic and are very clear,i had my new canopys made from acrylic super clear, cost around 4k,new ones made from poly around 10k,the poly is safer and less prone to cracking, most of the performance boats built on west coast use acrylic canopys

Madpoodle; Yeah pretty sure it is.

There is a guy in Florida that has one almost the same as mine, except his is blue, front hatch missing, steering on the WRONG side..and much less horsepower.. I think he goes by the name sweet tooth on some others sites..E

I've seen that blue boat, it's pretty cool especially since the steering is on the correct side.. I've heard tell the LH steer ones are actually plugs, and should be shipped to Florida for proper disposal..

I believe his name has changed to "My dentist is a millionaire" now.

Very nice! Back in '88, our local Donzi dealer had a new 18 2+3 Testarossa Edtion in the show room. It sat in that showroom for 4 years before it sold. Very cool boats!

Since Jamie posted pictures of his '88 22C TR (and what a wonderful original boat it is!!!!!), I've posted some pictures of my '88 TR project. Since I didn't start w/ as nice a boat as Jamie did, it's taken over two years to get it to this point. Including considerable hull and deck reinforcement and a complete re-gel.
