Lets get a little more info on the Bravo Shops new owner and what future plans may hold. I know us BT guys need a stronger drive since factory merc stuff doesnt hold up that well for us.

John, lets here what makes your stuff greater than the rest

John P
07-06-2010, 03:52 PM
Excellent point Chris

1st off it would be the 5" upper gear set.
2nd would be larger shafts
3rd would be internally cooled drive housing
4th new heat treating process on gears and shafts
5th larger bearings
6th would be all new machining process for housings, both upper and lower will be CNC machined to exact spec.

What else would you like to know?

Coolerman

Looks nice John!

Are you doing the billet caps as well?

John P

Yes we have those also.

endeavor1
07-06-2010, 05:53 PM
Glad to hear the specs on your drive.

John, would you agree that now it is a family ran business with your direct involvement and oversight, this will be a much better product than previous. I would think qauilty control and tolerances would be much better than before, especially with your background in machining and fabrication.

Chris rest assured that I will repair your drives myself and yes they will be perfect.

As we have 2 other shops this is my little project and I will be doing all the drive work myself until I have it where I can train one of my sons to step in and take over.

1 more thing to add to the list I have set up a deal with using a power coat that was developed for Caterpillar that will withstand all kinds of chemicals and salt water so all the drives will be getting this process done.

And just so you know it is not Yellow.

07-11-2010, 02:28 PM
Can u do this powder coating to older drives?

John P

What props?
The XR is a little lite for the BT you may want to think about something else. We can get smoking deals on new xrs if that the way you want to go!

Pulled the broke XR lower apart. The vertical shaft broke between the gear and the needle bearing. Gears still look fine. I thought the upper was the weakest link on a heavy BT. Lost the drive 80 miles down river at the Helena King Biscuit Blues Festival on the river. Had to call for the trailer.

Here are some pics of the lower gears I took out of my standard housings, they have 60+ hours on them in a 46 BT triple 850's and then they were installed on a 38 Power Play and they look great. Before I started my special cryo/heat treat they where only lasting 6-10 hrs. These are now going in some shorty housing I have and with our new lower unit grease.

Ok I had some time to pull my drives and disassemble them to check out how the Bravo Shop oil did and all I can say is WOW. This lower set has 65hrs and the uppers have 200hrs on them, keep in mind that this is 850hp and in a BT. I will take the other 2 drives apart that had 80 hrs on them when I change oil and now have 125hrs on them. This oil is amazing to say the least!! The oil looks as good as new that I drained out.
