I know I read something about the optional cav plate somewhere but can't find it...

Is there anything to gain by removing the plate, if I still can get on plane etc.

just there to get on plane. I doubt you will get on plane without it.

If you trim them above 0 they shouldn't effect your top end. Getting on plan with out them will test your patience!! :cuss:

kinda the same thing, but what exactly does a cavitation plate do?

The props used for surface drives is way different so that should have something to do with it.
