Heres a project thread to show you what has been done to my boat so far. :)

Got the boat from miami and I never actually saw the boat with my own eyes before it got to sweden. A bit of a risky deal so to speak.

Heres a couple of pictures from Miami and then a few pictures when I picked it up a couple of days before christmas 2009.

As you can see there are LOTS of work to get it in shape but that didnt scare me (:sifone:) so I started to tear down the boat.

Last one on the transom for now, Iīll try and shoot some more pictures this weekend.

While working on the transom I started to look at the bolster seats... and guess what?! They were also rotten :rolleyes:

Freddan
03-30-2010, 04:18 PM
I carefully removed the leather so I could make new frames of the old ones...

Im not completely done with the bolster project but heres a picture to show what they might look like.

Freddan

Currently Im working to re-install all the components in the engine bilge so I can install the engine in a couple of weeks.

Tons of work to do and the boat is supposed to hit the water within 3 months..

More updates to come... :sifone:

Feel free to comment anything and Im open for suggestions if you think Im doing something completely wrong.
The reason Im redoing the bolsters myself is that I cant afford to buy new ones right now.
There are also a few marks and scratches on the hull paint but Im not going to fix that now, I want to use the boat this summer so Im just putting it together so it works. There isnīt enough time to fix everything on the boat right now so I will fix the rest next winter.

Freddan,
Boat looking great! I believe yours is actually a Scorpion not a Carrera (even though they are kind of the same...Carrera came first). I think the guy who redid the boat painted "Carrera" on the side. If the boat is truly a 1985 model, it's a Scorpion. Hull I.D. on transom (if you can still see it) should start w/ the letters "SOP". Keep up the good work! Looks awesome!

That is some interesting information! I will check the hull I.D. for sure, if its a scorpion - then it is a scorpion and not a carrera. I want to be sure of this so Iīll check the I.D. as soon as I can. :)

If someone has seen my boat in the Miami area and has some information about the boat or its previous owners, feel free to contact me or write something about it in this thread.

The guy who redid the boat was located in Homestead, FL. I think his name was Freddie. He had a few Carrera/Scorpions. Someone else on here might know something. I had a 1988 24 Scorpion and a 1985 also...tough boats!

You were right, here is the I.D.: SOP10624B585

So, then itīs a scorpion... right? :)

Scorpion it is! Carrera built the 24 from about 1977-1984. In 1985 Julio Deverona got the molds and built under Scorpion. Scorpion built the 24 from 1985-1989. Scorpion then went out of business. They came back around 1996 for a year or two. Not sure if they built any 24s in 1996 or 1997, but I know they still had them, because I was at there shop in 1997 looking to buy a new one...wish I would have. After that I heard the molds ended up in Texas, but were in bad shape. Haven't seen any since. Look at the video posted of Frank's Marine in Key West, FL 1995. That boat is a 1989 and one of about six built that year. That's the reason I bought one...Frank's Marine was the baddest Scorpion I've seen run! Here's a pic of my old 1988 24 Scorpion.

Yeah, a lot of people have tried to track down the molds but noone has come up with them, basically its a 24x7 bottom with good bit of rocker and a tall deck, the only 24x7 with a tall deck giving it a somewhat useable cabin.

Did you raise the x dimension/propshaft height?

Freddan
04-02-2010, 03:43 AM
Did you raise the x dimension/propshaft height?

Yes, I raised it by 3 inches. I have no clue what effect this might have on the handling of the boat but I figured if I find out that I had raised it to much I could buy spacers.

What height did you have on your Scorpion? Was it raised?

You've got the right idea w/ the spacers. Frank's Marine Scorpion had an X dimension of 18 or 18 1/2. He had a 1' spacer in his drive which means hole was cut at 19 or 19 1/2".

More work, I forgot my camera but I managed to take this picture of the transom. :) Hardin Marine exhaust pipes.

A small update  :)

Started to install some green ledlights, dont know what this might look like once the engine is installed but I figure I should do it before I installed the engine. :)
There will be atleast 7 or 8 ledlights installed.
Sorry for the poor quality of the picture but youīll get the idea.

Time for an update!

Decided to make the bolsterframes alot more simple. Solid like a tank :)
They are currently at the upholstry shop, hope to have them soon.

Freddan

I also made some changes to the engine hatch, made it about 40cm longer since I decided to go with standup bolsters in the back.
I also added some support to the hatch by the woodpieces you see in picture #2. More pictures of this will follow. In the last picture I have started to paint the hatch white.

Freddan
06-18-2010, 05:46 PM
I made a new hatch and door to the cabin.
Added some more green lights to the sidepanels. :)
And a picture of the gauges and switches.

Freddan
06-18-2010, 05:51 PM
Painted the enginecover white :sifone: came out fairly good I think.
Didnt like it black so I had to do something crazy. My friends think it now looks like a diesel engine.

Freddan

And finally, a picture taken today.

Im getting ready to fire the engine in a day or two, the only thing missing is 8SS clamps to the starboard exhaust pipe.
I buffed the the exhaust and polished it, looks really good I think. :cheers2:

Now its time to sleep, got to get up early tomorrow and continue working on the boat.

Well, the boat is now out of the water. Winterproject started right away!

It seems like the paint didnt like the way we boat in sweden, we keep our boats in the water the whole season and the paint didnt like that so it had to be removed.

I emediatly started to strip the paint... more pictures will follow of the progress.

Well, I like it too but it seems that the paintjob wasnt well executed so I had alot of small bubbles in the paint when I got it out of the water. I could peel of the paint with my hands. :(

It gonna be tough to leave it in the water and not get blisters in the paint
unless you go with ugly bottom paint.

A couple of shots of the progress... This job is incredible boring but atleast the paint comes of really easy.

The original gelcoat seems to be darkblue with some goldpaint.
It kind of looks the way the "Express" boat was painted with gold on the sides of the top deck. (Altough it looks like the "Express" was painted black)

As I mentioned before; If someone has some more information about my boat or its previous owners - feel free to write something about it in this thread. :)
