New to me...2000 38 Top Gun T/S Cover Girl Cabin with no motors or drives.
Dropping in a pair of 500hp's bumped up to about 600hp. I have bravo drives (Would've loved to have the #6's but couldn't swing it). I am mounting with extension boxes eventhough I was told they wouldn't do a thing for performance, but hey...think they look cool...and they were just laying there.
Can anyone tell me what I should expect as far as top speed? I heard the 01 & 02's with stock 500's run in the low 80's and was hoping for just a little bit better. Don't seem to see many 00's out there for some reason. Was that a low production year or something??

Thx

I would say 85 mph. I don't think there were alot of 2000 TS's made. I had a 2002 w/ Merc 575's and it ran 90 mph w/ 5 blade Herrings. Boat weight was 13,208 lbs.

Bravos probably won't last long unless they're XR's or you baby it.

The extension boxes are going to slow it down unless you move the X dimension upward. Every foot of box extension backwards will need about an inch of movement upwards. On a 2000, you could probably do even more- with advances in props. If you run boxes and don't move the X, it'll have the same effect of lowering your drive.

We re-worked the transom and took the boxes into consideration when setting the X dimension. If it runs mid-80's I'd be happy....for now!

Congrats on your new ride........2000 was first year of production on the t/s so that is why you don't see many.

I'm kind'a diggin the "old school paint" on a twin step. Good looking ride.

That boat actually had 6's on it, and procharged engines when Martin Marine had for sale years ago. I never heard how it ran, or what it ran though.

My 02 T/S ran 92mph with 625 Zul's, & both standard length XR's, as well as shorties, both with the ITS system:

Picked up at Nat'l Liquidators in Ft. Lauderdale....in Cincy now...will end up on Lake Cumberland. Boat has low hull hours but needs serious TLC.... The engines and drives are fresh. Any history on the boat would be appreciated. Orig out of NJ so it was obviously a salt water boat. Don't have many pics for now cause we're knee deep in it.

Man "General Lee"...I hope my engine comp looks half as nice as yours when done. Sweet!!

My '02 w/ 575SCi's has run 93.9 and will run 91 - 92 all day any day.
I am sure I could get 94 - 95 out of it if I played with props.

I think I know that boat. if it is the one I think it had cobra power and #6s. At the time it was well taken care of with an open check book.

Boat was def set up for #6's when i bought the hull. Really is in pretty good shape just needs a real good cleaning and some glass work on the bottom. It was not on a trailer so prob got banged up moving around at Nat'l liquidators. Heard the previous owner was in a bad boat crash. I wish him well.

Anyone who has know abouts of the ignition keys....would be very helpfull...lol

Thanks guys!

It was a cool boat, and I'd planned to keep it with the Skater, but the current owner had to have it http://smiliesftw.com/x/sadwavey.gif (http://smiliesftw.com)

Here are some pics, as long as you don't mind the slight thread hijack:

The boat belonged to a buddy from NJ. Boat had Cobra 750s and 6s. Boat ran approx 105 with that set up. Magic Blond was a ref to his daughter who as a child could not say magic wand but instead magic blond. Yes he was in a serious accident in the popeyes cat in Key West 2008. He is doing better but still struggling to get back to where he was. He raced with typhoon in the OSS series as the driver and would be happy to hear his boat is in good hands.

Most of the damage on the bottom came from the fork lift at Hideaway when it was kept there years ago. Fineline redid the interior three years ago but storage did take its toll. Good luck with it, had many good times on that boat!

Ya, Hideaway was known for that when Pierre was in charge. My family kept a previous Intrepid there for a few years.

Update...Boat is together and so far 86 on gps. We are playing with the props but I think 90 is within reach. Think my X dim may be just a tad too high. Tons of slip on the props. I do love the ride in this Cig. Can't wait to find some big water on lake erie this summer. Cumberland is way to smooth (except for Poker Run weekend)

I personally didn't do the rigging but I believe 2 1/2" below bottom of boat was the final X dim. Bravo 28's....1.35 gear ratio
