Hey guys, I just want a little input on what props to try next year. As some of you know from other post I am raising the drive height from 8" to 5". The boat is a 236 Baja, 22deg hull, 500HP conservative, 70MPH. My best speed is with a 25 Mirage plus with double cup and lab finnish trimmed to the moon. I have about 10-11% prop slip and comes out of the hole very quickly. I have been told that the 3 blade prop will not work at 5". My first instinct is a Bravo 4 blade probably a 26 pitch. Has anyone tried anything else on this type of setup?

The current prop may still work. Probably just harder to get on plane. I would try it first. Other options would be a 24-26 Bravo 1 or REV4.

Let us know if you want any 4 blade test propellers to test.

Thanks for the input. I think I will go ahead and try the Mirage and see what it does. I have several friends with varius props to try, just wanted to get a idea of what might work.

The Mirage prop worked fine at the 5" depth. Only 9.8% slip, 5200RPM, 74MPH.

I am kinda in your boat jeff. I am finally done and looking to see which prop i want to send to bblades. im gonna try my 25 mirage soon but i do like the B1 but i am told that with how deep my drive is in the water that it is not the best prop for my application.

Jeff, try a mach 4 blade if you can find one. I liked the mach the best on my 24' as did most of my buddies with 24 outlaws. The 4 blades are where it's at for handling and ride.

The 4 blades are where it's at for handling and ride.I guess you let yours go with the boat. I do not know anyone that uses a mach prop. The mirage is giving me very low slip numbers, I know a few guys with Bravo's that I can try. I am coming on plane very easy and I am not sure if a 4 blade prop would be faster.

Most likeley a 3 blade prop has faster top speed then a 4 blade, but the over all handling and acceleration is better on a 4 blade.

Have you tried a standard Mirage? It has less cup than a Plus and you get a couple hundred more rpm. My boat likes the Mirage much better but it slips a lot more in the mid-range. FAST prop though.

FAST prop though. My boat likes a lot of cup on the tips. I have twice the cup as a Mirage plus. The slip numbers are a lot higher with the standard Mirage.

Got ya. Every boat is different and my boat loves the Mirage at WFO. It actually slips less than the Mirage Plus(like 7%) but it definitely slips a lot more at cruise.

BTW, love the Ram-air post!!!

BTW, love the Ram-air post!!!Thanks, by the way it worked. Only about 1 or 2 MPH but that is huge for me.
I am trying a Hydromotive 4 blade 23p this weekend. I borrowed it from a freind I will let everyone know how it works.

Some people spend a lot of money on motor mods for 1-2 mph!

If the Hydro isn't an X it will need A LOT of trim to get bow lift. They lift the stern quite a bit and ride flat. Some boats really like them though.

That was with before I raised the x dim and with less HP. Back then it would not lift the bow enough to get any speed, it ran real flat. Well now with the raised x the boat runs flater and faster and I may not need the bow lift of the Mirage. Never know until you try it.

Yep! I NEVER pass up an opportunity to try a prop!

FYI - The best 4-blade I have tried to date is the Rev4. Just as fast as a Mirage Plus with great bow lift, awesome handling and a strong mid-range bite.

Denny, need more info! What props are you running now? Brand and style, diameter and pitch? What speed are you running and whats your slippage?

OK, here are the results of the Hydro 23p. I could only pull it to 5300 RPM @70MPH, I could pull more RPM but it would loose speed. Prop slip was good at only 9%. Overall it felt good, it planed of better than the Mirage, but at least 2MPH slower given the heat. If I did a lot of skiing and tubing and made a lot of turns this prop would work. Probably a better prop for stepped hulls given that a lot of Fountains run these props. I may try a Bravo prop next just have to find the right timing to borrow one.

I have tried Mirage 23 and 25 both three blades.

I tried bravo 27 4 blades.

I tried bravo 32 4 blades.

I am running Mach 1 24 4 blades they seem to be the best.

I hit 4000 rpm and they spin....
