I am just not a fan of the deck on that. It just seems to tall on the 32'. The longer Cobra's look ok. I do love old race boats though, and I am looking for a new project. Hmmm.

But its worth it .

I talked to the guy that raced it last . he said some HP smallblocks and XR's and the thing will do 100 min. rock solid , nothing wrong with the hull at all.
partley rigged and ready ( almost ) for power.
Needs new steering , pumps ,wiring, drives and power.
I would redo the seats and paint it .

WOULD BE LIKE NEW , READY TO GO !!!!!!!

Not me. I like the old school, but the deck is just fuggly. I was seriously considering it though. I really want to stay in a single too. I don't think it would be bad to have 30k in it if it is what you want. At least you know what you have if you completely rebuild a boat as opposed to someone elses problems.

Dude! Sweet!
11-20-2009, 01:04 PM
I really dig the look of it. More of a european offshore look. I've already got two boat projects and a drag car project going... so, no Cobra for me.

$30k... I'd have $10k into it before it got to my house! Ha ha ha.

Nope the only thing that boat in my book had going for was the colours and some details, The Deck is not my taste it is actually ugly on all Cobras IMO.

I like it flat and if it snaps my neck then at least I died doing something I loved.

100mph and 30 0r 40 more.

Which class would it fit then??

If we need acceleration get a twin 28 Pantera with BBCs slap some 540īs in and go.

I think boat sold? No matter what you think of deck, Remember, there's no more Old Racer's being built, If you can find one, Money's not the issue, It's knowing you brought the "PAST" back to "LIFE", I saved "INFERNO" from being crushed, And have way more than 30 or 40k in it!! It's history of Offshore racing your saving!! Whatprice can you put on that?:reddevil:

Couldn't agree more bud. We just started shooting the paint on my '85 28 Pantera race boat this weekend.

Loved that Cobra. I hope we get to see her properly restored and running sometime in the near future.

I saw the boat over the weekend, I know the present owner and was told that the boat could be sold for cheap. the price was the same as the prvious auction so i dont know what happened there. It needs alot of work, but someone in the business who has a plethora of parts and spares could make it work....

That's what the auction closed at. Down from $3k last time. Don't know if it actually sold this time or not. At this point, if it wasn't on the wrong coast, I'd be hard pressed to pass it up, even though it would mean making some moves on some other projects. Too bad.

salrcr42
12-09-2009, 01:03 PM
The "For Sale" sign that is on the boat says $10,000 or B.O.
if it didn't hold the $3,000 first auction, I find it hard to believe it would sell for 1,125 now. On the other hand e-bay is e-bay....

I was told by reliable sourses that someone could pick the boat up for close to what the first auction closed at. It actually would make a nice project if the buyer had "an excess" of spares..

Here's a photo of that Cobra in Key West in 1986. Bob Oetringer was in the center as the driver of record and owner, Vance Shaf was on the starboard side navigating and that's yours truly on the port side on the sticks. We had 540's with single Holleys and #3 SSM 1.50:1. She loves rough water and we gave it to her!

Dude! Sweet!

No, I never owned her. It was Oetringers boat. It was the old "Night Wing".

Do you know where the 31 Excalibur hull came from?

Not from a cobra ,,,,,i don't think !

But i know that Aero-tek and Fountain came from a 31 excalibur as well !

Also 312 chris craft and the scarab are based on that model.

I do think that excalibur came from Magnum, like most of the boats did.
