Yea, they got a bad rap the first year they came out in 05. They did have a lot of issues that year. Then in 06 they made some major changes, and released the 600CC, 700CC, and 900cc. Stock the 900 makes 116ft lbs of tq! My arms are usually a little longer after a day of trail riding :)

If you want a 2 stroke 600, I would look at a skidoo Rev mxz from 03-07, or 06 Polaris Fusion like mine. You can get a brand new 2006 Fusion 600HO for prob 4500 with a full warranty. Both sleds have awesome rides in the rough stuff, and are very comfortable with the rider forward design. Just be careful if you look at the 03-05 600 revs, they had bad piston rings from the factory. If they were replaced already, then they are cool. I have no experiance with the yamaha's, but I'm sure magic medicine andy can point you in the right direction if you wanted to go that route.

One thing i love about my sled is the adjustable handlebars. Slide them all the way forward, and get your nuts on the gas tank for riding hard in the twisties, then slide them back and sit back, stretch out for those long rides down the long straights. Pretty versatile.

Knowing you and how you like radaring $hit and top speed numbers lol, you might want to look at a arctic cat ZR900, Polaris XCR800, skidoo mach 1000, or arctic cat thundercat 1000. Then you can join BOBZ's race team on the lakes!

Tony,

I pm'ed you my number. Joe is pointing you in the right direction. If you are interested in Doo or Yami, I am your man I have owned numerous Doo and now I right in the Rice camp so I am VERY familiar with both camps, I have had my hands in 4 cats this fall so I am becoming very familiar with those as well. Polarias has always been a very reliable engine with a great suspension. They got crapped on because of the 05 fusion, this sled had problems but I think the "internet hype" really killed it.

Call me bro,

Sunsation96

This was out of a local paper in Houghton Lake MI :ack2::(

Tip Up Town in jeapordy in 2009
In an article published by "The Roscommon County Herald News" dated Sunday June 15, 2007 (yes it was actually printed as 2007 instead of 2008) Chamber of Commerce President Dave DenBoer expressed his concern for the low number of committed volunteers and sponsors that Tip Up Town has at this time.

Mr. DenBoer has given notice to the community members indicating that if a sufficient number of volunteers and sponsors to run Tip Up Town aren't found by Auguast 1, 2008 then the winter festival will have to be shut down for this year.

If you or anyone you know can volunteer or would be interested in becoming a sponsor then please contact the Houghton Lake Chamber of Commerce. Don't wait.....do it today!!!!

I agree with the big nuts but wouldn't the stud count be differnt with the 136 track. I have 144 down the middle but the 121 track???? Also also am a fan of Stud Boy Racing for the studs. I ran mine all last year and had no troubles??? my second choice would be Woody's

Tony,

I agree with Joe, you need to use the smaller big nuts, 5/16. I have completely worn through Woody's gold diggers in less than 1 season. I currently have Woody's megabites which is the best Woody's option. The Warthogs are the way to go, I just did a Nytro RTX with these and they are awesome!

I remember when I was spending countless hours researching studs, the Warthog XZP studs were on the top of my list. I think they were once made by Saber? Now made by accord racing? Anyhow, read they were a great stud.

On my current sled, I used Extreme Max studs. Pretty much a bargain cheap stud. I opted to go with their 1.52" stud, in my 1 1/4 track. The 1.52 is the stud they recommend for a 1 3/8 track, and the 1.40 is the stud they rec for the 1 1/4. Well, Extreme max that is, be careful, some stud manufacturers measure studs differently. So far mine look good, no bent ones, pullouts, no rust, and carbide tips still look pretty new after a season of riding. Went with the longer stud for a little more penetration. I want to say the tips of my studs extended just under 3/8" over the tops of my lugs.

I also bought some of the stud boy little big nuts, the ones with the nylon inserts. When I was studding, a lot of them had the inserts coming out while tightening, and it was pissin me off! So I emailed stud boy direct, and they sent me a whole new bag of nuts for free, and a t-shirt, which was cool. No questions asked. I must have got a bad batch or something.

At the time, I was looking for the best deal. 192 woodys gold diggers and 192 big nuts would have cost me a small fortune. I want to say i paid somewhere around 250 bucks for studs, backers, and big nuts.

One brand I can tell you to stay away from is "redtip" studs. They are garbage imo. Heres a link to the warthog xzp studs, this guy usually has some decent prices.

No ups deal wasn't what I was refering to Mr. Sled expert:rofl:, like Joe said most stud companies measure their studs differently. Like Joe I like to run the most possible stud penetration I can get away with. I was curious as to the measurements and did not get a call back in time, so I did Woody's again. If your track is 136" you should probably run 162 studs. DAM seems like nobody can even agree on the amount of studs , unless I'm not getting all this my track is 136" [144 or 162 or ? ] just plan on going down the middle with the studs unless that is not fully correct, :(

redhotsommer
11-29-2008, 09:48 AM
It's not fully correct...I learned from Andy yesterday what to do to create more scratch lines...and your studs should be closer to the rails as that is where the horsepower is transferred to the ground. When you have the sled and the hardware, I can probably help you out...we could do it at my shop if you want. Like Playn said...162 down the middle should do it. If you have 1-1/4 lugs, like Michelle, you could run 1-3/8 Studboy Powerpoints like I did...your sled is the same as hers, only a longer track.

Good info Mike. The reason I say 144 instead of more is the 136 has a bigger foot print than a 121" track. You will have more studs on the ground than 121" track equally studded. That sled is only 130 hp +/- so I think the extra weight is not worth it.

Basicly you want the push through type 5/16" thread carbide tipped stud. Pleanty of manufactures to choose from. I've used both Studboy and Woody's. If you have a 1.25 Ripsaw I would go with 162 studs up the middle for your 136" track. If you go with Woody's then they would be 1.325" studs, and I'd go with the taller nuts and aluminum backers. I would only run them up the middle and stay away from the outside as from my experience running on the outside weakens the track (other opinions may vary). But I did end up trashing a track fully studded with 192 Studboys in the middle of the UP and had to cut a football size section out of the track to get it back to our camp (not an enjoyable day). At least I had the foresight to bring a spare sled to ride that weekend.

It is frozen but has a way to go before I'd get out on it. There were open spots a couple weeks ago. If temps hold it will be fine for TUT. Temps will be low this week so that will help.

The sled is going an overhaul,
All new idler wheels, shock rebuild all four, new chain case bearings, jack shaft bearings, drive shaft bearings, new hyfax, new v-force reed petals, new reed gaskets, carb clean, carb sink, thermostat and gasket, chain and sprokets time to gear up:sifone: and last but not least re ceramic coat the pipes. As I have said before this sled runs great so I felt it was time to overhaul some parts, most will say that i'm anal but I go up north to ride not sit. Hey Magic where are you going this weekend Gaylord is awesome from what I have heard my friends went this week. The sled will be back in one piece in a few weeks. You know every freakin year I wait till its cold to work on it, not next year... Have fun this weekend and be safe...

Good luck on the rebuild! See you on the trails

Hope everyone is having fun...I got f#$%kd by the snowmobile gods. I guess it could be worse...poor Magic Med can't get out of bed cuz he hurt his back...but here's my story:

Grabbed the sleds out of the shop to drive them over to the trailer and load them...both fired right up and idled fine as they warmed up. Drove my XP to the trailer, walked back to grab the Vector....and there's a pool of OIL under it! I shut it down, dragged it back into the shop...where I saw another pool of oil from when I ran it on Tuesday! I figured maybe the oil filter didn't seat right when I changed the oil last year, so I pulled off a side panel and a skid plate to see where the leak was coming from...wasn't that. After monkeying around with it for a while...I finally called Highland's Yami...service guy directed me to the problem...there's a breather tube for the oil res that connects to the airbox (which I had taken off in order to charge the battery). This TINY little hose had come undone and gone unnoticed...and the oil was puking out of it! Soooo...I little creative maneuvering and I had it back on and bolted up (this after about 1-1/2)...fired up the sled, but it was running like crap...I figured it was due to there being about 1/2 gallon of old gas in the tank and nothing fresh to burn. Loaded both sleds up, and decided to fill the sleds with fresh fuel...if nothing else, to see if the Vector would smooth out before driving all the way to Caddy. Well...it didn't work. Sled was running rough, backfiring, wouldn't idle, wouldn't build power, etc. So, I went home, pulled the airbox again to make sure everything was good, pulled the plugs...and they looked cooked (VERY black). I ran over to the auto parts store, he had none in stock...tried parts store #2...he had 5...I said I'd take them all. Went back home, and the plugs wouldn't thread in...because they gave me the wrong ones. By this time it was 5:30, we were supposed to be on the road at 3...I was shivering from working in 15 degree weather (or was it just the rage??)....so I quit. And now I'm home, still don't know what's wrong with what was supposed to be my RELIABLE sled...and I'll be at Highland's in a little bit.

Great way to start the season...of course last year started with me blowing a clutch on my sled and then having the stator fall apart on the one I borrowed for the next day...so I'm right on pace!

Just got home from my weekend in cadillac. Good times, lots of snow. Trails were awesome! Got to run my new skis, which worked pretty nice. Sled ran good, no breakdowns.

One of the guys supercharged 08 Nytro's wouldnt start, starter went out he thinks. Luckily, he had a 09 nytro in his trailer as a backup! Another guy kissed a tree friday night, he was ok, but is ZR wasnt. Needed to get towed to the road, and loaded on the trailer. Luckily his buddy had a backup F5 for him. One of the nitrous fed F1000's greneded a belt, and had the wrong spare, wouldnt fit. But my spare polaris belt fit and he made the rest of the day. All and all, not a bad trip.

Apparently you only have to worry about that ONE tree up in Cadillac...the others aren't so bad!

Michelle and I put in almost 100 yesterday up around Coloma. The trails were great...a little snirty thru the narrower sections, but there was probably 8-10 inches in some of the fields. At least both sleds ran well...didn't get to test out the SRX just yet...might bring it by your shop if we get some more snow, Den.

I don't tear them down, This will be the first season in three years that I have cleaned them. I just Sta-bil and fog the engine and spray down with silicon spray. But the new fuels scare me, I heard it will eat fuel lines and carb boots, but don't know how much truth there is to that.

As for carb teardown/clean...I didn't figure that was my problem, as I put the SRX away last year with NO Stabil, no fog oil...NOTHING...put new plugs and new gas in it and it fired after about 5 pulls. Tore down and cleaned the carbs on it last winter, and they were REALLY clean after at least 5 years of not having it done.
