View Full Version : What is the baddest single 28 ever built?

ar15meister
11-03-2009, 08:18 PM
Has to still be floating. Not neccessarily the fastest but obviously that has ALOT to do with it.

I am looking for ideas for my update and I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread about the baddest 28 single so I could get some ideas.

Also, the Pantera section is dead right now.......we need to breathe some life into it!!:sifone:

DERANGED was 28ft MAGNUM rerigged in2000 with a sealed hp 500 on a stellings box with imco sc drive,, ran the 2001 APBA season.. I wanted to run f-1 but was told i was making a wrong decission so they (john) put me in p-5,, i said i don.t think you want me there,, he insisted he new what he was doing! so goes history won 7 races out of 9 ,, f-1 started about 30 or 40 seconds before p-4 and 5 i usually passed all the f-1s and ran up to the p-3 and 2s so a 1968 Magnum became the 2001 national champion.:USA:

I've never seen Brian Stubbefields boat run, but if the stories are true, that boat would be a strong contender for #2.

I'm personally partial to Tomas' boat though. And obviously Adam, you're boat is a bad MoFo, as well. But depends on if we're just going on looks or performance. Yours is my favorite on looks.

Wow, I'm in almost exact agreement with Sean.
Adam, yours is the baddest looking one out there - just looks sinister.
From everything I've read about the Mig, and the firsthand reports, I'm thinking she was/is one badazz machine.
The pictures of Tomas launching in the snow - that's just freaking priceless.

The Mig is owned by a guy named Dan. He's an archetect in Florida. I want to say up towards Orlando somewhere. She's got a 500 in her now I think. I blelieve her motor is in the Donz top gun now.

I noticed Adam's boat in the Daytona mag pic as well. Cool pics and certainly a shared Gene pool!

As I recall, the Mig had a short stroke 572 with a 14-71 on top of it. Big power. The high X dimension bravo with a six blade prop when she did "the number"...

If we are talking about boats that arent currently running their big motors (like the Mig) I guess I could mention that mine ran 97mph with the old motor in it according to previous owner. I have no way to verify but Jeff wasnt a BS guy. Actually I got to get ahold of him and ask him....lol. Boat now runs 82mph on handheld gps with what I was told was 710hp but I am not sure it was making that much power before it blew up because Jo thought I should be running closer to 85-86 provided I lab finished my 4 blade 26p bravo.

Jo might know a little more about that old motor/setup.

Dan the owner of the Mig lives in the Florida Panhandle.

F1-71 did run in the mid 90s here in Miami with the blower motor with the previous owner and I.With a true 710 HP motor you should be running more than 82 MPH.

There is a bunch of other bad azz Pantera 28' single. Here is another with a Cobra 725 HP owned by Mike in Maryland. Top speed 85-87 MPH with a full pleasure set up.

I never got her to spin more than 5600rpm or thereabouts with the 26 you gave me with the boat. 82mph. What kind of prop were you running?

I am thinking of building a 900hp blower motor for it but not sure yet. When u ran 97mph were you running the IMCO and what kind of prop?

All great boats mentioned so far !! If we are talking about just all out bad 28 single Panteras & not talking ****ing match & they don't have to "completly" float just yet I would have to throw Tom's 28 in the mix for just all time coolness !!! Adam, I think that's a good call. There's only one boat like yours and if you sell it, you'll regret it.

You've really got to decide what you want to do with the boat... There's a strong arguement that you should just drop in a Blue 525 or 600 and run the wheels off it. Turn key enjoyment. But there's an equally strong arguement for puttling a six on the back with a 1,700 hp 14-71 blown 632 that behaves like a caged wolverine hopped up on chyrstal meth!

I think you can't change the color.
The boat is already known for that, and too identifiable.
Anyone that is going to shy away from a Pantera based on color doesn't understand a Pantera.

Yeah, I'm changing the color of mine, but, the red didn't shy me away from getting a killer classic boat.

Hahahhahahahaha

Yeah baby. Never tried meth....yet!

I met Adam tonight....good person....I chastised him for taking off the eyes....we all agreed that Sean was a weenie.....then the waitress threw a drink in my face..
I'm selling the pantera movin to kw and putting a chief motor in my scooter and I'm going to terrorize this place.

If only the money wasn't all the same phucking colour.

I don't think it's a short lower, just a notched transom so it naturally sits high.you are right when he went to the stand off he went back to a standered but the x is high on the boat

No one ever mentions this one.

I came very close to buying that one a while back. I believe "offshore Steve" sold that to his buddy who was storing it when I looked at it. Have never seen it come up for sale so I guess he still has it in Atlanta? It was a very cool boat with the 6 pack.

I've seen that picture of the boat, but I know zero about it otherwise. Greg what's the story on that one?

Dude, that was a nice boat that had a 572 with around 700hp. Dry exhaust.
I had heard that it ran around 80 but never rode in it. The new owner posted once speeds around 74 if I remember correctly. Then the motor blew up and the story ends here. I have not seen it out in years but I have not been out much myself. I know both Steve and his friend had 28 Skaters. Very cool boat and was the first Pantera I was interested in. Light race hatch on it. I'll bet Jo knows the whole story. I'll have a look for that post.

maybe this one with a 675 ke for power

Thanks Mike! Pantera has made lots of sweet 28's - This is what made me want to purchase the 2005 Pantera 28 with a KE Blower Motor - It was the Engine Rigging that Pantera did...

Pretty sure that is all correct. Fred had the boat for a couple years around 2001-2002 and had the engine built. I heard that whoever bought it wanted to go faster than 85mph and bumped the HP up some more.

Germans got the Baltic so why not offshore race there or come over up here to do one race Sunset, Roslagsloppet that is, you´d fit right in there in the Classic class with the Arrows and even Tomas with the ex Travelnow.com Pantera might give you some competition.
I mean we ain´t got the sun of Florida but neither does New Jersey or Michigan...
Besides Roslag is a true offshore race and oldest of them all.

I drive around in the Speyer area, sometimes Eicher See or Wiesbaden.
As far as I remember you have bought the 33 Powerplay from Alexander.

Marcus with the 28 AeroTek (and other boats) is a buddy of mine. I think you know him.

You know that this world is small and Germany is even smaller. There are not so many GoFast boats here so you know most of the owners.

Why don't your start a new thread in here with pics of your boat and some info on getting it over to Germany and what you've done with it or plan to do with it since you bought it. (OK, I'm impatient... I started it for you.)

Thanks,

Like to try this power in a new Pantera 28' SR with our new T.S. bottom. I have seen 95 MPH on GPS in this 28' single. Has a 3 man bolster with a simple back seat and race dash. No cabin no cockpit liner.

JO - PANTERABOAT

Tunnel Vision 28' was very fast back in 1992 and the crew ran it hard with alot of heart. Won alot of races in 1992 beating the twin engine boats with a single.Kind of started the evolution of the Pantera 28' with a single big HP set up.

The Dodge Viper 28' was neat because no one had ever powered a Hi - Performance boat with a Viper motor at the time. When we showed up at the Miami race it drew a crowd quick and alot of talk.

They are all bad azz ! :sifone:

Saw it yesterday at TnT, I believe this beast is one of the top 28's fo sho....It's interior has a little room for extra riders with a bad asz 3 man, just means business and the way I like them. The rigging is also real nice.

I think there´s one pic of it in the snow from last winter on a Swedish site Tomas is involved in?
The hull has a few cracks that needed attention....do not know if they got done but the progress has been slow.

My boat is a little more 'raw'. It will be nice when it is done I think though. Just need to find some more time to work on it. Hopefully with hunting season done I can get down to business but then I go to Scottsdale for a month on January 10th on business. Goal is to have the engine and drive done by the time I get back and ready to go with the exception of painting the bilge.
