I never asked Bobby but I would assume it's because Apache's were the most fierce warriors... Bobby Also designed the Apache nickel head, it was a modified Indian Head Nickel. Jack Kramer helped Bobby get the original trademark for it....

What's interesting is the Apache indians were screwed by the US government....they may have the same feelings for the boat company... :(

Folks, I talked to bobby, I had some of my info wrong on the nickle. It was actually the $5 indian head coin that Bobby used for the Apache logo. Gail also did the lettering on the logo.

Also confirmed why Apache was the name.... My guess was correct for the most part but there's a lot more to it and it goes back to the Kilpatrick days when Bobby built the Squadron named Apache. All of this was before Kramer.

Funny part is I was told it was the $5 coin by Bob once before and had a mometary brain fart the other day when I wrote it.... The logo was sometimes referred to as the "Nickel" so I think that's what confused me. Oh well, we all make mistakes...:seeya:

Yeah, it's amazing how there's "no room for truth on the internet."

The original question was where did the name of the company come from...
The answer..and oar company.

Jack, Your information is incorrect......

When Bobby was building the Squadron for Kilpatrick they needed to name the boat. Kilpatrick was half Irish, half Indian and was also a prized fighter. Bobby came up with two names; "Apache" and "Raging Bull"... Apache was choosen because Bobby thought the Apaches (Geronimo) were fierce fighters and a few other reasons. So they settled on Apache and went racing...

Shortly afterwards Bobby started Apache, taking his idea from the Kilpatrick Squadron...:seeya:

Then Bobby came up with the "nickel" logo. He had the $5 coin in his desk and thought it would be a cool design for a boat company so he modified the coin, Gail Paik did the lettering etc. Matter of fact, the first "Nickels" said Apache Boats. Only a few of those logo's were ever made. Apache Powerboats in the logo was later....

Then Jack Kramer worked with Bobby to get it trademarked. When they submitted the logo to the TM Office it was rejected at first because they found out there was a wooden oar company that was using a similarly designed logo. Bobby's design was similar to the oar company but it was not taken from it.

A letter was sent to oar company asking if they could have permission to use Bobby's logo for the company. The oar company said; "We make wooden oars not powerboats so go ahead!"

The TM was approved and the rest is history.:driving:

Hopefully I captured all the details. Bobby tells the story much better than I can, obvisouly because he was there and did it!!! :USA:

Again Jack, you're wrong.... The NAME or the LOGO didn't come from an Oar company. Please don't twist what I wrote.... Read the fine print... 1. Bobby comes up with Name. 2.Bobby designs logo. 3. Logo was rejected when they went for the patent because it's "similar". 4. Oar company say's it's ok for him to use his logo not theirs....

The logo didn't come from the Oar Company as you say..... Documents you have should show a release from the oar company but they didn't "get" logo or the name from the oar company. :seeya:

The fact is the name did not come from an (or as you say "and") oar company. I told you why it wasn't and you still held stake to your claim in multiple posts because of the access you had during the transaction.

I spoke to Bobby, got all the details, I didn't assume anything.. I provided the information to educate and elaborate, you still refused to acknowlege.

I have no stake in this game, I'm just an enthusiast and I'm not a bullchitter.. If I know facts I state them, I have nothing to prove. If you have questions call Bob, you know how to get a hold of him!

Hey Jack!! What seems to be your problem with the apache LOGO.. Why are you twisting the truth and posting half cocked?? The facts you have only go back to when we met in 2003-4.. Jack there is a whole other set of facts that you seem to be misinformed about prier to our meeting.. Especially where the logo and name was originated.. I personally designed the logo using a five dolor gold coin that I hade in my desk, in the late seventies. All I did was add the wording “apache” in small letters on the top, added two starts on each side and the word “boats” on the bottom.. Gail the Apache artist changed the wording to Thunderbird fount on the logo to the way it is today. "APACHE" on top and "POWERBOATS" on the bottom. I used the Logo for a year or two with out trade marketing it.. When Jack Kramer became my partner he said we need to get the trademark registered.. When the drawings and papers were submitted to the T.M. board it was rejected because their was an ore company using a similar Indian head for its trademark.. We contacted the Ore company as per instructions of the T.M. Board and explained the situation.. The Ore company response was; although our Indian head logo is SIMULAR to the one Apache Boats planes on using. WE ARE IN THE WOODEN ORE BUSNESS, AND THEY BUILD POWERBOATS.. We have no problem with this…. So Jack where do you get off saying that I copied the trademark of a wooden ore company???? Next you are going to say that the name APACHE came out of a Cracker Jack box!!! If you have any problem with this you know how to reach me….

Bob...remember..we talked about it..I know what happened, I just like the fireworks.Man,you guys bait easy:sifone: Who gives a chit about where the trademark came from. If I hadn't revived the McManus case, you would have gotten NOTHING.
Now..why don't you tell these fine people that the Apache deal was real? AND that you and Eric made $150,000 by selling Thad Cherokee?
I brought you a very nice deal and now I'm your enemy? Nice.....that's the thanks I get...
I would have thought you would have learned more over the years...

Not what I said at all...and Bob..I have no reason nor do I care to reach you

How is it not what you said when it's exactly what you wrote?

Listen Jack, Bob has never said anything bad to me about you but in this thread you stated the name and logo came from an Oar company, then you're given the facts and history and still you say you're correct, which you were not... My intent was not to "prove you wrong" it was to lay out all the events, not just say it came from an oar company... the Oar company is not even relevant to how the name/logo came about. this didn't have to go past the first page... What could have been a very informative thread for people totally went down the crapper because you kept stating the Oar crap over and over.

An now you say you were just poking fun and that everyone gets worked up so easily? In fact, debating the facts and history of it all is an insult to Bobby.

I'm not aware of anyone denying the Apache deal ever happened nor was it a topic of this thread... In fact Bob has told me numerous times that you put it together....

FYI, I light of the events that took place after the deal it's not something I'd be proud of or boast about like you do....... It may have been a money deal in your eyes but not for everyone... I imagine you sold your first child to a drug addict and they got your kid (company) hooked on drugs?:lurk5:

Maybe you're just misunderstood but seriously dude, take a step back to reflect and take a chill pill...

I had NOTHING to do with what happened to the deal after I got out..FYI
I have NOTHING not to be proud of.I kept my end of the deal.I stand by my word...
I made a deal with Bobby and I told him I wouldn't stand in the way of a deal...and I kept my word.
Frank...you are COMPLETELY out of line and you have NO idea what transpired.

.

I'm not accusing you of what happened after the deal. It was a pretty crappy chain of events.. What I'm referring to is how you constantly feel the need to tell everyone that you "owned" Apache, the BS about the jacket, the paperwork... yadda yadda yadda... Why are you defending yourself, who is saying it didn't happen? The people that need to know know how it happened... Don't concern yourself with the others who don't listen...

Must have struck a nerve so I'll appologize to you for the previous post but you were out of line in how you kept insisting on the oar company, for that you're out of line and owe Bob an apology. I was given my information directly from the founder of the company and it's an insult and is out of line.

And as you say, don't take this stuff too seriously......:USA:

And FYI, remember when I reached out to you? I reached out because I thought you were misunderstood and I believe you were about the COPS stuff... So, know that I'm not your enemy....

I just stuck to the facts and wanted everyone to know the details of how the name was thought of and the logo was designed.... Nothing more nothing less...

No...I don't need to tell anyone that I owned Apache when Bobby wrote it off.
You would have thought when all that BS came out about my ownership that Bob would have stood up,especially after he made a killing from the deal. Great friend...
It is all the imbeciles that think it's one big friggin joke and question my integrity...The jacket..funny.Bob sent the jacket to me and these idiots had their fun.

What Thad did was nothing more than a joke...along with McManus.
I'm done(well sort of)...:sifone:

Funny thing is if Thaddeus would have listened to me for one second,APACHE would have flourished and McManus would have been Mcnowhere. We had him by the short hairs and yanked hard:driving:
Too bad..a great name in the sport ruined by a bunch of morons.Welcome to the Offshore world:dupe:
