Lets here your opinions on these boats in a sit down configuration with singles,in the 27 to 30' range.

Which one rides the best in the rough?
Which one will be the fastest?
Which one will have the most cockpit space and usable cabin?

Before I bought my new 28 A.T. in 06 I looked at all of them but I was looking for real life useable cabin space and none of them had it so walked on all. Not much room for a cabin in a sit down boat.
That said I really liked the Kryp.it has a great look and they are fast and from what I have seen handle big HP and water well. Oh wait, the Joker I didn't see then, and have been watching them and really like the look of them and the cabin looks to me like the best outa the 3. But I have no real life seat time but I prefer that old school look they have.(I am old after all) That is a tough one there isn't much to chose from out there anymore if you are looking for new. I know Pat has all but given up on the 28 A.T. If I were to do it again I would be looking hard at Joker.

All great boats, seriously. Our 26 derived from Corsa and the 28's racing record speaks for itself. One thing alot of people don't know or haven't seen is the 28 pleasure version.

We need pics. How much head room is in the cabin on the 28? Like I said before I really like the look of that boat.

I do like the 28's lines and the usable cabin.May be out of my price range when I am ready since there are not many used ones out there.

I've never ridden in an Activator, Joker or Kryptonite, but I've owned Phantoms for 9 years. The raceboat was solid as a rock and the open cockpit is everything that I want in a pleasure boat. The current set up is a 540 with a #5.

Here's a few pics of my sit-down 28 Pantera.

I have been working on this project since jan-feb and took the first ride last saturday.

I ordered the interior from PPI in feb and they did a top notch job!!! It's absolutely flawless! I made the side and front panels myself.

New gauges, foot throttle etc.

One of the important things about these boats is that they are almost all custom made/built to order. You can get race lay-ups, plane jane, or blinged out, and with whatever power you want. All of the boats listed are amazing, but you need to ride in them to see what is right for you.

This is so true. With small custom builders you can basically get what you want. We built Tylers boat with a solid fiberglass bottom , no coring. It rides like a Cadillac in the rough.

Here's a few questions for all the boats listed..

1. What is the deadrise of all these boats?
2. Which ones have a variable deadrise?
3. Do any of these boats have a padded bottom?
4. What are the weights?

The answers tell me which ones most likely ride best in the rough!

The Phantom is 29'-10" long with a beam of 7' 2". It has a variable deadrise and a "small" pad (see transon photo below), and the step is ventilated as shown below. (The photo was taken while repairs were being done after hitting something on the race course in Sarasota 2001.) The canopied version weighs 4,750 lbs, so what would you guess the pleasure version weighs? I honestly don't know.

Thanks. I honestly don't know if Will Smith has changed the design over the years. My old race boat and the current pleasure boat were both built in 1999, so I'm guessing that he tweaked a few things on his newer hulls.

I imagine that forced air system must have too some R&D over the years. I would buy a pleasure Phantom easily. I will always have a sit down boat from now on. We pulled the #5 from the raceboat and put it on. Blue Thunder, the builder of our race engine built a 540 for me and we use the CMI Big Tube headers from the raceboat as well. Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to experiment with different props - the best that I have seen is 87 mph.

I'm getting bored with the graphics (or lack thereof) and hope to have it painted next spring.

I have ridden in a Kryptonite, have owned 2 Superboats and now have an Activator. Haven't ridden in the others but just took mine in 3-5's with Ed Thornton (ex-racer) a week ago and really put the boat through the ringer. Felt very confident in that boat in those conditions. A US Customs helicopter snick up behind us and we didnt know he was there until he was 25 feet over our heads, heads sticking out of the helicopter waving at us. Wish I had a camera. One of the cooler moments that remind me why I love these boats and go through all the bs of engine repairs, etc.
