Peter has the Hard Rock Fountain. Super V unlimited. Not Extreme. From what I remember Jerry his crew chief saying it had more to do with how it matched up to there competitors than any particular problem. At the time they were racing against a Fountain with whippled 525's. The rules in general are 509 and under superchargers allowed over they are not.

It wouldn't surprise me if a pair ended up in a certain OUTERLIMITS being built for Key West right now.... ;)

Nothing, well maybe a Lambo, sounds as sweet as that Ilmor in a boat at high RPM.....:26:

I think you will see the old fountain worldwide with Ilmors in KW, and also another 39 Phantom.

They do sound good WOT but they sound like to Massey Ferguson's fighting at idle. The Ilmor's are awesome but IMHO the sound of a healthy BBC is music.

The Fountain WorldWide boat did very well running the Ilmors in P1 for 2-3 yrs. I belive they won the World Championship 2 yrs running.

Ive spent a year now with an Ilmor 710. This is first class power.

Ive had big blocks and small blocks my whole life (like everyone else) and Im very happy with this mill.

Its a different beast than a BBC, much smoother- really. You really notice this at part throttle cruising while climbing up an down long period 4-5 footers, the V8 vibration and chugging just isnt there.

Sounds in between a nasty BBC and Lambo. Nothing like the auto.

My 5350 LB rig goes 90 with it and gets between 2.2 and 2.5 MPG on long ocean runs (300 miles). It can get even better mileage on a lake.

Idles like a kitten, screams like a 2 stroke banshee.
(well a 505 cubic inch v10 banshee anyway)

I would not hesitate one second to buy from Ilmor again after my experience.

I would also say Im a Mercury fan and always will be, they've done right by me, if they offered a non supercharged 700+ HP engine I would have likely bought it.

Got my GF "cleaning my pipes" in the pict.
