lol, both the boats portrayed were original Apache designs, not McManus super boats. Tatonka is original, and spirit is an original hull with a redone deck.

McManus worked for Aronow who stretched the Squadron to 41 and sold it to Kramer along with McManus......read the other threads it is all in the history in one of many different threads......

spirit is an original hull with a redone deck.

I had that completely backwards. I thought new hull and original deck.

actually they are both original, just some slight mods to the deck to "make" it a "new" design

I love McManus.
Anybody with a $200,000 1991 28 foot Brave is ok in my book. :)

Helps offset the people who get into circumstances that make them dump them for pennies on the dollar.

The 47's are amazing in big water, I bought my 41 in miami and loved the ride. The next day I rode in my buddys 47 "KEMOSABE" and was even more impressed, we ran in some big waves from Ft Meyers to Naples and it was a cake walk for that 47.

I agree, once the boats are in the water, you couldnt go wrong with either. As some experienced around here last wknd, once you go above 41/42, trailering, docking, parking becomes a job, not just pulling in with a boat. I take my 42 out by myself and run the waves, can dock it and load it by myself, I'm sure it can be done with a 47 as long as no current, but alos some of the marinas around don't have spots for you as all the big ones are usually filled with slipholders. but I'm going to try:D I just have a dream to redo a 47.

Spirit of Apache has a good case, for being the best 47 ever.

I suppose that depends on your perspective. I think they ruined the prettiest paint scheme ever to be put on an Apache when they redid that boat. The previous interior was spartan, but loading it with CNC cut logos in billet a la Cigarette wasn't my cup of tea either. Nonetheless, alot of workmanship and $$ went into it ind if that's what the owner wanted, he definitely got it.

As far as the 41/47 thing, as was said it's a completely different world. Triples are very expensive and the only thing worse is trying to do the job with monster twins. Using engines with sub-hundred hour rebuild intervals gets nuts real quick. And in many respects the 47 is almost boring. The 41 mashes through just about everything so getting the 47 up and out is going to happen infrequently unless you live arount Pt. Pleasant.

Also, it's a completely different lifestyle. You have to have a hauler, good luck finding a ramp long enough, etc, etc.

Having said all that the boat still remains on the top of my list.

Those that have spent numerous hours in both will tell you that the 47 is one of the best boats in that size range, but that the 41 is pure magic. Nothing else compares.

I've had several people on 3 different Apache 41's for the first time this summer that told me the same thing. "I've been on just about everything and I've heard plenty about this Apache thing. But you have to do it to understand it".

Spirit of Apache must be a great ride, but for some reason ,(maybe not trimmed right?) Ive never liked the boats attitude in that video. Why do you think its not flying straight there?

The boat was a 1991. In one of the documentary video's the owner (DeLatorre) told the story and said they put the hull back in the mold so I assume it wasn't re-hulled maybe just bulkheads etc.

McManus worked for Aronow who stretched the Squadron to 41 and sold it to Kramer along with McManus......read the other threads it is all in the history in one of many different threads......

Sean, while I agree the history is on the internet etc but what struck me as odd is McManus going on the record saying he designed/tooled the Apache 41' while Bob/Ben sucessfully raced and won championships. That's manipulating the truth, he's taking credit for things he did not personally do... He did not own Apache nor did he own USA, he was an employee of Don's and employees do what they're told to do on a daily basis and have no claim to fame when it comes to any design regardless of the work they did or did not do.

What McManus portrayed in the video clip is manipulating the truth... Don may have instructed Mark to build molds for the 41' but he didn't design anything, Don did. Don just couldn't build it because of his non-compete with Cig... At least "one" person is honest with themself where the boat/mold came from.....

Mark didn't come along with the molds to Apache, Ben later made him a sweetheart deal to come on board because Bob and Ben were out racing togehter and Bob started persuing other business interests on his own.
